Topic: (Almost) all auctions showing FP

I just posted this is another thread – worth trying…..

Guys, I’ve been reading this thread for some time, but since I didn’t have an account here I couldn’t respond.

First I am using 2.5.2, and all my auctions have gone (FP) so I can’t snipe them. I tried the Beta version listed earlier, and it did not help. The problem is intermittent, sometimes things are fine, I use Firefox as my browser.

I have an auction coming up that I didn’t want to miss, so I started playing around with things. I’ve gotten them to work right now, not sure if it’ll hold or not.

Here is what I did:

I opened JBW – all auctions come up (FP). I did Update Auction – no change, still (FP).

I went to Ebay in my Browser (Firefox). Because of cookies, it shows me as logged in. So i clicked on the LOG OUT linki in the top left hand side of the page. Ebay logged me out.

I went back to JBW and did Update Auction. (FP) went away, and I can now Snipe again.

Now I don’t know what this tells us, or if it helps track down this issue. I wonder if it’s an issue with the cookie Firefox is using. Of course, this might only be a temporary fix. I’ll let you know. Might be interesting to hear if it works for others though. Maybe it doesn’t like being logged into from two places………..

Topic: (Almost) all auctions showing FP

My setup (2.5.2) has flipped to ‘FP’ and back to ‘normal’ several times over the last 24-36hrs.
I made no changes to my JBW setup during this period.
Perhaps a web developer at ebay has made a series of changes that affect the underlying structure of the pages.
[The unlikely alternative is that JBW can parse the same web page twice and get a different result just because something like a timestamp is different.]

The fixes suggested so far only seem to work sometimes for some people but not every time.
Maybe each time we try to ‘fix’ the problem we load the latest version of the HTML from ebay.
When JBW understands the latest version of the HTML we think we have ‘fixed’ it.
When JBW does not understand the latest HTML we think our ‘fix’ did not work.
I suspect that there is no single magic solution based on reload/revert/cache dump/etc..
(It would be nice but the variation in the recent posts does not seem to support that.)

Does anyone have an alternative explanation as to how my JBW setup can fix itself then break (all FP) then fix itself again hours later ?
(I made no real modifications to the PC during that period, I might have moved the mouse but not much else.)

Curioser and curioser… I did the dump cache /refresh this morning, all was well, I got back from work to fine all auctions FP again, but JBW HAD fired a bid and won an item whilst I was at work, the cache dump does not now work…

wakou – thanks for the suggesstion.
Went to the system that runs JBW to try it but noticed that more than half the entries had already switched back to normal without me doing anything at all. Just sat and watched it to see what happened next (approx 12-45 local time GMT +1). Sure enough each incorrect ‘FP’ entry switched back to normal as it was refreshed automatically by the system. Prior to this it had been refeshing regularly but reporting all items as ‘FP’ for many hours.
Pretty sure ebay are still making changes to the underlying code, formatting, etc.
If so, refreshes/reloads/cache dumps might only help if the most recent code change made by ebay is understood by JBW.
That would make the problem similar to an ‘intermittent’ one AND the rules that cause it keep changing. Ouch.

JBWuser’s ‘bid ignoring FP’ idea might allow us to carry on using JBW [sometimes] on days like this when ebay are making changes.

Have been running 2.5.2 for a while suddenly all auctions seemed to go to FP.
Cleared and rebuilt database – no improvement.
Reverted to 2.5.0 – no improvement.
Cleared and rebuilt database – no improvement.
Went back to 2.5.2 – no improvement.
Left it for 24hrs whilst wondering what to do next – now showing auctions correctly.
Perhaps ebay broke something in the HTML and then realised they needed to fix it for their own internal reasons.
Jbidwatcher was probably just an innocent bystander in all that.
Credit to Morgan for code that can survive most of ebay’s ‘improvements’.
JBWUser’s idea for ‘bid ignoring FP’ is very attractive if the FP thing is likely to happen again.

Same here on eBay.de unfortunately. :-( Even restarting JBidwatcher doesn’t do the trick anymore.

+1 to JBWUser, having something to ignore these FP errors in the first place would be very helpful. I’ve found the restarting trick works sometimes, but not always. I’m terrified of leaving home thinking I’ll miss out on stuff if the dreaded (FP) appears while I’m at work.

FPs on not completed auctions are back again! For example, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251139738230 is shown as FP. I just wonder, can we have an option ‘bid ignoring FP’ if this issue comes back again and again?

The new 2.5.2 shows now completed auctions as (FP), however they were regular auctions (I have a feeling, that the (FP) shows some times but some times not). Updating the auction did not solve the problem, returning to previous 2.5 did. Another problem with completed auctions is that they do not show the actual final result. For example, ebay 320966616622 was shown as completed with only 3 bids and corresponding price, not the 9 it actually achieved. Updating the completed auction in previous 2.5 also resolved that problem.

Regarding the buy-it-now status icon, it seems that it only appears for auctions where you can make an offer, like 170837326822. It does not appear for other buy it now auctions like 150380924914, 270748098093

BTW, wasn’t there a PayPal icon as well in the past?

It seems that it happens only on auctions where PayPal is available and when there is at least one bid (I am not fully sure about the last). “Update Auction” has no effect but restarting JBidwatcher fixes the issue for a while. I am using the GIT version from Aug 11, 2012.
Here is an example of such an auction: 230840706074

Win XP SP3, freshly installed JBidwatcher 2.5.2. This morning most of the auctions showed (FP) again. ‘Update all auctions’ didn’t correct the problem, restarting JBidwatcher however did.

OS X, USA base, just ebay.com, updated to JBidwatcher (2.5.2-0-g8e3723d)

Every FP showed up on my old listing that’s already in my database. I had no complication with the update, everything seems to be faster, smoother, thanks for the code.

I also added some new items that’s FP, and they look fine also, but the Buy-It-Now Red B symbol does not show on every listings, only some of them, and I don’t know what the differences of those, as they are all with BIN price.

Thanks for the update :D

ebay.co.uk: When 2.5.2 pulled the listings of my current tab for the first time, it FP’ed all items – sorry. Using JBidwatcher’s “Refreshing eBay Session” and then updating all listings made all FPs vanish.

This indicates that EBay’s changes currently affect only a small number of servers: When JBidwatcher hits one of these it goes “FP” . Thus, an Ebay session refresh carries a high probability of JBidwatcher catching an Ebay server being not yet loaded with the new Ebay code.

I guess Ebay is just testing things – a full roll out of new web pages used to take a week or so in the past. We might have to wait for this to happen in order to track down the issue – hunting for maybe 5 out of 100 servers making trouble won’t work.

So, keep an eye on your listings approaching a snipe – when they turn FP just refresh the Ebay session and update the item. If necessary, repeat the two steps until FP is gone.

Greetings,
I’ve had a fix for an older (FP) problem for a while, but I’m not sure it’s the same as this problem.

PLEASE GIVE ME ITEM NUMBERS for any items having this problem, preferably ones which are ending in more than a day or so.

Same problem here with ebay.co.uk. The trick with ebay.com didn’t work either! Need of an emergency update! Love the program. Using it for years. Hate it when this happens!
