Hi,
I left bidwatcher 2.1pre4 running and somehow it managed to download about 3gig over a couple of days. I ran a packet sniffer and it was hitting offer.ebay.com…. a lot. Just a heads up you may want to warn people.

Greetings,
It’ll hit offer.ebay.com in order to place bids, but there’s REALLY not very much data being transferred there.

When you say it ‘downloaded about 3Gig’, do you mean that your disk space was reduced by 3Gig, or you have a bandwidth monitor which showed it pulling down 3G of data over those couple of days?

I ask because sometimes JBidwatcher gets in a Bad State™, and dumps tons of data to its log files, which can eat up your disk space like nobody’s business, unfortunately.

Hi,
Yes, my bandwidth monitor (actually ISPs bandwidth monitor via web interface) indicated i had used a surprising amount of my quota for the month.
I thought they were wrong for a while then I did a packet sniff and saw a lot of packets heading to “offer.ebay.com”, then I remembered I had jbidwatcher running on an nx session. I can’t remember exactly what the packets looked like but my guess would have been somehow jbidwatcher was stuck in a loop around the send code to offer.ebay… ie. it was sending a LOT of small requests to offer.ebay.com.
Anyway, jbidwatcher is great, not sure what happened in my setup to cause this, as I’m guessing you haven’t heard of this before.
