Greetings,
Right now, JBidwatcher is not very well architected in the respect of seperation of UI and data. In order to solve some problems quickly enough to release, some of the internal structures rely on the UI classes, which in turn rely on Java Swing objects. The Java Swing objects can’t be created if there isn’t a UI for them to write to.

So launching JBidwatcher in ‘headless’ mode is, unfortunately, not functional right now.

It shouldn’t be too agonizing to disconnect those parts again (I went through and did it once in the past), but it’s not a priority, and the resultant program would need a lot more work to be a decent server. (For instance, the HTML display should have the tabs as the normal display does; it should be a lot more ‘modern’ in its HTML output, and it needs to allow all the JBidwatcher functionality through the web interface.)

Anyhow, the upshot of all that is that it’s a pretty major task, and one that I’m not really likely to address pre-1.0. In fact, there’s a good chance I’ll be addressing allowing users secure mobile control of their JBidwatcher desktop (wherever it might be) before improving the internal HTTP server.

Hi Morgan!

A quick and dirty solution would be really great :D Afaik there’s no other program for linux which can act as a sniper server. Even when the resulting program isn’nt very usable, it woule be absoultely sufficient.

Thanks
Christoph

Well, I have it working somehow.

I run jbidwatcher inside a vnc server session, and access the internal webserver remotely.

It works great for me as I already have a vnc server running with some other apps that won’t run headless.

Anyway, It should be great if the webserver could be improved adding some tabs (current auctions, completed) and allowing sorting of the watched auctions for example.
