Hello all, I’m running bidwatcher 2.01-825 and have had two sniping groups now that won an item but then did not blank out the rest of the items in the group, looking for all the world like it was going to bid on the rest of them. I didn’t chance it and deleted the auctions by hand, luckily I was on hand to see them. Jbidwatcher did recognise that I’d won the auction in both cases (it has a tick beside the item in the completed section) but didn’t clear down the bids on the rest of the group. A cut ‘n’ paste of the last one is;

Sat Feb 28 20:29:41 GMT 2009: Sat Feb 28 20:29:41 GMT 2009: 150328291000 (Game Cube Luigi’s Mansion Boxed – eBay ) – Successfully sniped a high bid on Game Cube Luigi’s Mansion Boxed – eBay !

Sat Feb 28 20:29:43 GMT 2009: Sat Feb 28 20:29:43 GMT 2009: 150328291000 (Game Cube Luigi’s Mansion Boxed – eBay ) – Your bid was below or equal to your previous high bid, and was not accepted.
Sat Feb 28 20:29:43 GMT 2009: Sat Feb 28 20:29:43 GMT 2009: 150328291000 (Game Cube Luigi’s Mansion Boxed – eBay ) – Cancelling snipe.

There are no more messages after that. Restarting jbidwatcher does not cause it to process the groups again or any other action I’ve taken so far. I thought this release was made specifically to fix this behaviour, not introduce it!

I am on ebay UK if that makes any difference.

Thanks.

I knocked the price down on the subsequent auctions to see if it would bid on them, and yes it did, despite it already knowing I’d won an auction in the multisnipe group (it had a tick next to it in the completed tab). Looks like multisniping could get expensive!

I also got two snipes on every each item in a multisnipe, and I won two items.

Sniping was set for 70 seconds before the end time.

First item ended 00:30:00, should snipe at 00:28:50

Thu Mar 05 00:26:51 EST 2009: Preparing snipe.
Thu Mar 05 00:28:51 EST 2009: Firing actual snipe.
Thu Mar 05 00:28:53 EST 2009: Successfully sniped a high bid on TAUPE
Thu Mar 05 00:28:54 EST 2009: Preparing snipe.
Thu Mar 05 00:28:56 EST 2009: Cancelling snipe.
Thu Mar 05 00:28:56 EST 2009: Your bid was below or equal to your previous high bid, and was not accepted.

Second item ended 02:15:00, should snipe at 2:13:50. Actually since I already won one item it should not have sniped at all. This time there seem to have been three snipe attempts

Thu Mar 05 02:11:51 EST 2009: Preparing snipe.
Thu Mar 05 02:13:51 EST 2009: Firing actual snipe.
Thu Mar 05 02:13:53 EST 2009: Successfully sniped a high bid on KHAKI
Thu Mar 05 02:13:54 EST 2009: Preparing snipe.
Thu Mar 05 02:13:56 EST 2009: Preparing snipe.
Thu Mar 05 02:13:56 EST 2009: Cancelling snipe.
Thu Mar 05 02:13:56 EST 2009: Your bid was below or equal to your previous high bid, and was not accepted.
Thu Mar 05 02:13:57 EST 2009: Cancelling snipe.
Thu Mar 05 02:13:57 EST 2009: Your bid was below or equal to your previous high bid, and was not accepted.

On other items in the same multisnipe before the first win, Jbidwatcher made two snipe attempts. On other items after the first win Jbidwatcher made one snipe attempt, but it shouldn’t have made any. Why did it keep on sniping after I had won one item?

BTW I’m only out about $2. Same seller, no additional shipping charge, and both items came in below my maximum. But the cost might be much bigger next time.

Also I can no longer just watch an auction in jbidwatcher, when I sync it with “my ebay” to get my watched items, it sets up a bid of £1 on all of them and refuses to cancel them, selecting the item then going to auction->cancel has no effect. No output is produced in the logs.

Does anyone know of another sniper that runs on a computer and doesn’t send login details to remote servers? As long as it’s got multisniping and auto-login capability so it can be left unattended then that would be fine. JBidwatcher seems to grow bugs a bit too regularly, some of them potentially rather expensive!

I would just like to confirm that the Multisnipe feature is no longer functional in the latest version of JBidWatcher (V2.0.1-825). Once bid and you have won the first item JBidWatcher NO LONGER CANCELS your other Multisnipe bids. WARNING – You could (like me) be the proud winner of many items when you only required one. Only use this feature if you can check and cancel your Multisnipes.

One of the bug fixes in Jbidwatcher 2.0 (Feb. 14) was “Multisnipes not firing, or seeing ‘unsafe multisnipes’ when there aren’t.” It seems the fix overcorrected the problem, and now we have multisnipes firing when they shouldn’t. Each snipe fires two or three times, and sniping doesn’t stop when one item has been won.

The version before 2.0, the one that failed to fire and failed to accept multisnipes that were really safe, was 2.0 beta 11. That was a fix for a bug in the previous version that could cause sniping to continue after an item has been won. That fix also appears to have overcorrected the problem.

My meager experience with software design and coding suggests that when fixing a bug creates an opposite bug, that’s a signal that the program logic has become too complex and has to be completely redesigned. So I don’t expect a quick fix.

Meanwhile, I would appreciate suggestions as to what would be the best existing version of Jbidwatcher to use, assuming that missing a win is preferable to buying two. Would that be 2.0 beta 11?

I wish I’d read this before using JBidWatcher this past weekend. It bid on all 5 auctions, winning four of them. $OUCH$ The multisnipe feature is the reason I tried using JBidWatcher.

just had the same problem – won an item, but none of the multisnipe items also selected had their snipes cancelled.

looks the same as the poster above -

Fri Mar 20 11:11:54 GMT 2009: 270356192959 (Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens. V.G.C. ) – Preparing snipe.
Fri Mar 20 11:11:57 GMT 2009: 270356192959 (Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens. V.G.C. ) – Your bid was below or equal to your previous high bid, and was not accepted.

is the reason it is not recognising a win (and ending all the multisnipes) because it tries to snipe twice on the same item and the second snipe always fails because it has already been sent?

Check the “complete” auctions list in jbidwatcher, do the won auctions have a tick next to them? If so this indicates that jbidwatcher did recognise that it won them. In my case, the auctions had been recognised as having been won, but despite that, jbidwatcher still went on to bid on more items in the multisnipe group.

Avatar dwe 4 post(s)

yes they are recognised as won in the complete list, so maybe there is another cause?

I can confirm that the Multisnipe feature (and almost everything else) works fine in Version 2.0beta11-736 of JBidWatcher – at least on a Windows XP machine. If you are looking for a version to use then stick with this version. A link to downloading it is available: http://forum.jbidwatcher.com/forums/1/topics/1734

I am running 2.01-825 and ran into this bug over the weekend while JBidwatcher was running unattended. Ended up buying three CPUs rather than just one. They were all good deals of course, but that’s two more than I was planning on getting. Another multisnipe set also made a snipe after winning the first, but “fortunately” I lost that one. These auctions were spaced out over several hours, so it’s not a too close time issue.

In the CPU set the completed pane shows the check-tick in the status for the first two that were won, but not the third.

Is the beta version indicated in a previous post by Hoddy still the best workaround for this issue? I’ve used JBidwatcher successfully for years and will continue to do so, but will exercise a bit more caution when using the multisnipe feature for the time being.

Thanks for a great piece of software.
