Comment Topic: General Sniping Discussion / Failed Snipe

Well, even with over 1700 visits to this (and more to another failed snipe topic), after over a month, still no response or sign that JBidwatcher is having this problem fixed. Either Morgan is busy elsewhere, eBay has out-foxxed JBidwatcher, or maybe eBay bought him out(?).

Whatever happened to JBitwatcher, it no longer reliably works for me on my Mac (not even sure that it’s placing a bid at the end of the auction – I’ve tried changing the time when it bids to longer/shorter times – no observable improvement), and I have given up on JBidwatcher. It wasnice while it worked, anyway….

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Comment Topic: General Sniping Discussion / Failed Snipe

Today – for the second or third time in the past few months (I don’t snipe that often), I had setup JBW with my price, to bid at 11 seconds to go in the auction.

However, as I’m watching the time run out and the auction ends, I see a date and time in the “Time left” column for that auction, in red type (not a good sign, I’m thinking). Then the auction disappears into the Completed tab. I switch to that and find that, although I had set a price of 39.99 for my max snipe, the price it went for was only 23 or 24 dollars and change – NO sign that JBW had put in any snipe at all(!)..This, as I said, is not the first time this happened for me with 2.5.3pre on the Mac. After the previous failure, I deleted the app and re-downloaded 2.5.3pre for Mac and installed it (keeping my preferences and other support files).

This is getting very frustrating, when it appears from the log that JBW didn’t even snipe at all. No entry that appears to be opening the snipe at/around the time of the auction’s end.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / snipes fired around 30 to 60 minutes too late - time delta wrong???

ytterligare, the problem is not just with AU and UK eBay sites, as the auction I was trying to snipe on, was in the USA. JB for some reason was logging me in (about all the time I believe) through the UK site (maybe it doesn’t wait if eBay is slow in responding?), instead of through my own country’s eBay login.

So the problem still may be in JB, even if eBay is also having problems of its own. Unreliable is unreliable, in my book, however many additional sources of problems (besides those that JB seems to be experiencing).

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / snipes fired around 30 to 60 minutes too late - time delta wrong???

Same for me – I tried updating the auctions, syncing the time, and the time would only hold accurate for about 1 – 1&1/2 minutes, and then would slip back to Daylight savings (one hour too far out for the auction ending).

Maybe check if what’s happening is that JBidwatcher has logged me in through the UK instead of the US eBay site (which I’ve noticed it tends to do for me – in the US!) and it misreads the time sync for some reason related to that.

Nobody (that I know) wants a program that doesn’t work properly on two days a year (because it just might be that they need the program to work precisely on that day). If this doesn’t get fixed, I will have to trash JBidwatcher and go back to manually sniping, as I just lost my first bid on an auction because of this bug, I guess. I don’t keep a program on my Mac that doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do. I hope you didn’t forget about the days when Daylight Savings time shifts when you wrote JBidwatcher. Trying not to be angry, but this item was quite hard to find anyway, and JBidwatcher blew it right in front of my eyes.

Please fix this, or your downloads of JBidwatcher will drop when word gets out, I’m sure.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / OSX Lion 10.7 compability?

Thanks for filling us in, Morgan. Great to hear that JBidwatcher has a continuing spot on my Dock. Even better that it recognizes the need to download the Java RTime, as I’d seen (somewhere) a post that had me wondering what Java version would work under 10.7.

While I’m not upgrading to Lion just yet, I do hope that JBidwatcher will have a version that runs under Lion available before too long (so I don’t lose this great tool for auctions).

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Odd behavior - auction starts in 'Complete' - ?

Today I was trying to add an auction using JBidwatcher (2.1.5-0-g91e38b0) for Mac (OS X, 10.4.11), and after I entered the auction number to add the auction, it didn’t show up. I decided to click on the Completed tab, and there was the auction (with a day and a half to go) in that tab’s listing of auctions (all the rest of which have completed and are done).

Anybody else have this problem today? I have never before had this happen with any version of JBidwatcher that I have used. Puzzling…

Comment Topic: Announcements / [Baby] Richard Avalon Schweers

Congratulations to you, Morgan, your wife and (both) your wonderful son(s) – and I hope you are blessed with as brief a transition to the anticipated “sleeping through the night” stage of his development!

And thanks for the update, too!

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Logging into UK eBay for US clients?

Have downloaded 2.1pre6 (Mac OS X), and set it up for the USA. However, I have noticed (via Li’l Snitch) that after JBW logs into eBay.com (US), it then tries to log into the UK eBay (ebay.co.uk) also – ?? I didn’t see anything about my settings including other country eBay sites, and I don’t use eBay sites in other countries, so I’m trying to figure how to turn this off. When I just allowed JBW to contact the USA eBay, but then refused permission for the UK site, JBW tells me that I wasn’t able to login (at all?).

What’s the deal with this behavior, I am wondering? Can anyone explain this for me?
