There are several possible problems; your version of Java could be problematic, you may have a proxy set up that Java isn’t recognizing, or your network is set up to get its DNS in a way Java isn’t working with.

Is there a stack trace associated with that, so I can see which host its trying to connect to?

At the top of the log file is the Java version and manufacturer which would also be helpful.

Info on your network is really something only you can know; proxies, firewalls, NATs, routing tables, etc., are all stuff you should look into and make sure it’s not misdirecting some packets, or intercepting DNS requests.

I’m afraid there’s no instant information channel, IRC or otherwise.

I try to respond on Twitter, here, email, or the bug reporting system, but I’m constrained on time so I don’t always respond. Your question is potentially technically complex, so most of the other users aren’t going to address it.
