Comment Topic: Announcements / [PreRelease] JBidwatcher 2.1.6pre6

Hi Morgan,

- Like said above, auctions update doesn’t seem to be done automatically.
- Very often the color doesn’t change. For instance, I become the highest bidder, but the description stays red.

I don’t know of the following is a problem or not, but it makes deleting a bunch of auctions very slow.
In the right part of the status bar, there’s the total of selected auctions and the total value of all these auctions.
Then if, for instance, I delete 70 auctions at $2 ($2 is chosen to simplify things) I will see 2 counters scrolling from 1 to 70 and from $2 to $140, then an auction is deleted, and counters start again from 1 to 69 and from $2 to $138, a second auction is deleted and again, 1 to 68 and $2 to $136, and so on.
I don’t remember seeing that in the previous version, but I may be wrong.

Thanks.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / software function

Hi,

Indeed, you have to be online with JBidWatcher launched if you want to SNIPE. It will act like you were in front of your screen waiting for the last second to enter your bid. That’s why JBW and your Internet connection need to be active.

If you just want to PLACE BIDS, you can do it within JBidWatcher and then switch off the computer. It’s like when you browse several auctions and bid on those your interested in. You bid then close the tab and check for the result later.

My temporary workaround… may be useful if you add a bunch of items otherwise I guess it’s better to do it one by one.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Tips and Tricks / Feature Request : Highlight by default bidding and sniping value

Sorry for the delay and thanks for your wishes, 2010 was a cool year :)

If I double click on an auction to enter a bid, a default value is calculated. If I want to bid higher, I have to select it before entering the new one. If this default value is already selected (that’s what I was meaning by “already highlighted”, wrong vocabulary sorry), I will just have to enter the new value.
Same “problem” with sniping.

I mainly use the keyboard with JBW, sadly there’s no shortcut for bidding, like CTRL+E for sniping… that will be another request :)

Thanks again for this must-have software.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / URL adding doesnt work

eBay changed something again, now their URLs have a different nomenclature.
So adding items with a “drag and drop” (I use to select several URLs from a seller’s listing or a search result and drag them into JBW window) from an eBay webpage doesn’t work anymore too.

Old URL : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewItem&item=350486291039
New URL : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Karuraoh-Super-Famicom-SNES-Japanese-version-rare-game-/350486291039?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item519a9c625f

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Captchas

I had this problem too. If you add to much items (I was adding more than 100 per day from one seller to make my selection later) then you got the captcha annoying stuff. Now I select items I’m interested in BEFORE adding them (around 50 per day from this same seller) and get no captcha anymore.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Did eBay change code for high bidder ?

Read that last time, but forgot to report it.

“Entering verification codes

Why we ask for verification codes

Your account security is important to us. As an additional security check, we might occasionally ask you to enter a verification code when signing in to your account or sending an email. While this is a little more work for you, it helps keep people from accessing your account with automated tools. You may also be asked to enter verification codes if your password is identified as weak."

I have hundreds of auctions, that can explain why my JBW is often blocked by verification codes.

[EDIT]
Shame on me, that’s in the FAQ.

Now my solution, when I got captchas, is to open auctions in several tabs. Then, for each tab, I go to bid history and enter the captcha.
That is to show to eBay server that I don’t use an automated tool, usually 1 day later it comes back to normal.

It’s back. Maybe another eBayers complained too to eBay.
Or maybe they’re doing this time to time for an obscure reason.

JBidwatcher 2.1.5
XP Pro US

Hi,

Something may have changed today may 20th on eBay between 7:00 am and 8:00 am (french time) because the column “High Bidder” doesn’t return anything anymore. I can’t even see my nickname now, but I still see my max bid.

Just tested something before hitting “Post topic”, there is a captcha now to acces bid history. I’m not sure if something can be done to work around this.

Thanks.

io

[Edit] Just saw that it happened on april 25th too : http://forum.jbidwatcher.com/forums/1/topics/2838
Then it’s back again today :(

Comment Topic: Announcements / [Baby] Richard Avalon Schweers

Congratulations Morgan, this is a great update :)
I can understand what you went through, our third child was born 15 months ago, the delivery was very very painful and we thought we were about to lose her (no breath, no cry, no moves, … only here heart was beating slowly), but, I don’t know how many time after (because seconds were like minutes), we finally heard her.
She had a broken clavicle, haematomas on here face and we were afraid of some damages/sequelas on her brain. Happily, all is fine now, she’s doing well, she’s smart and all the bad moments are behind us.
I wish all the best to your family.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / 2.1.2 - 100% cpu load

Back after some testing.
I would go for rendering problem, I guess as stated before by someone else it’s a Java issue and I hope that a future version will resolve this.
I was testing with few items in a tab and all was working fine, then I added more auctions, around 80+, and the response time was awful again (bid, snipe, update, everything…).
Then I reduced the JBidwatcher’s window until I just saw 7 auctions and response time was not perfect but good enough.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / 2.1.2 - 100% cpu load

My solution while waiting for the problem to be identify is to create multiple tabs and put few auctions in each (around 15-20 in my case).
I think it’s a display/“list rendering” problem. I’m gonna try a JavaRE 1.5 (if I find one and if I can downgrade), to see if it comes from there.

[Edit 1]
Wow, it’s back to normal with Java RE 1.5.0_22.
Maybe I’ll try some earlier 1.6.0_xx by curiosity.

[Edit 2]
That was fast. As 1.6.0_21 and 22 gave slow results, I started to test from Java RE 1.6.0_20 to the first one that will be as fast as 1.5.0_22.
Java RE 1.6.0_20 works very fine.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Question about JBidwatcher doing bids?

Yes, I did it on purpose because they both did not read the FAQ.

In fact, I’m really sorry, because when I bid/snipe I picture JBidwatcher working as you explained it. I don’t know what happened, I must got muddled by something, I should not post in the morning.

And your maxim is great :)

Indeed, it can be a Java issue. It looks much better with JavaRE 1.6.0_22, I had 1.6.0_21 before.
Please update too and give your feedback. Thanks.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Question about JBidwatcher doing bids?

When JBidwatcher bids, it does exactly the same as when you bid on an eBay auction. It bids again and again to keep you the highest bidder until it reaches your bid limit.

But when JBidwatcher snipes, it does it only one time. If your snipe limit is $25 and if the current bid is $23, then JBidwatcher will snipe $23.5 but if the other bidder has bade $24, then it lost for you.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / 2.1.2 - 100% cpu load

Now, I’m running the Java version (.jar) of JBidwatcher 2.1.2.
I have put all auctions in a “Temp” tab, but the behaviour remains the same as when “Current” tab is filled with the auctions.
CPU stays low when an empty tab is displayed (no matter if JBidwatcher has the focus or not) and it goes from 25 to 100% if a tab with auctions is displayed, even if JBidwatcher doesn’t have the focus.
Maybe it’s a display rendering issue.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / 2.1.2 - 100% cpu load

Ok, I got back to the 2.1.1 version… and guess what, I still have the same problem with 71 auctions.

The 71 auctions are in the “current” tab. When JBidwatcher starts to update the auction the CPU load goes 100%, but if I switch to “complete” or “selling” tab, then JBidwatcher continues to update auctions (yes, it’s normal) but the CPU load stays below 6%.

After all auctions update done, I went back to the ‘current’ tab and CPU load reached again 100% for around 20 seconds, then it stayed between 15-60%.

For the next test, I will add a tab and move some auctions. To see if it’s related to the management of the “current” tab or if it’s a display management issue not matter the tab.

In fact, still the same. Maybe 250+ auctions is too much for this new version. There wasn’t any problem with the previous one, even with more auctions.

I have updated to the latest JavaRE.
I have deleted all .xml files in the .jbidwatcher folder (I can’t delete everything or I will lose all my auctions), but I still have the same problem.

It will be nice if JBidwatcher had a export/import or save/load auctions feature. We could export or save, delete everything and then update to the lastest JBidwatcher and import or load previously saved auctions.

In fact, I was wrong for the RAM.

The 100% CPU load appears while JBidWatcher is updating auctions.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Tips and Tricks / Feature Request : Highlight by default bidding and sniping value

Hi,

While poping up bidding and sniping child windows, it would be nice to have values already highlighted.
I remember it was working like this on previous version, about 1 years ago I guess.

Thanks for JBidwatcher.
And best wishes for 2010 to you and your familiy.
