I found the run dropdown after right clicking the icon in the start file and going into properities. It is under the shortcut tab. I selected it but it doesn’t seem to want to make jbird open minimized. – Appreciate your help anyway.

Howdy doomkrad, I appreciate you lending a hand. I right clicked on the icon in the starup file and went into properties but didn’t see a ‘Run:’ area with a dropdown list. There were other tabs like general, security,compatibility ect.
I have the “minimize to system tray” option checked in the configuration manager of the program, but it initially opens as a window until you minimize it to the system tray manually. I am running Windows 7 and have jbidwatcher 2.1.5

When I set up snipes to occur several days away, I want JBidwatcher to be open when my computer restarts in the morning (so I don’t forget to open it myself on the day the auction ends). I put JBidwatcher in my start up file and it opens when windows starts up. Great, but what I don’t want is the program sitting open on my desktop with the auctions I am sniping available for anyone to see when I come in first thing in the morning. Maybe you could add a selection that minimizes the program to the taskbar when the program first opens. That way I can set up a snipe and forget about it.

I put in my ebay info and email address and when I click save, I get the message " Jbidwatcher can’t access its database. Please check to see if you are running in another instance." This is what has happened all last night and today when I try to make it work. I get this message every single time. Thanks again.

I finally fixed it. I had to delete all of Java – then re-install Java. Then I cleared evry trace of Jbid off my computer. Then I started a new download of Jbid – and it worked. Some traces of Jbid were still hung up and alive in Java – and this was causing the error message about my Jbid being open in another instance. Thanks for your help.

Yes, eBay rolled out a bid confirmation page to some subset of users that no longer used the key embedded in the form as the verification method. JBidwatcher didn’t recognize those forms as valid bid confirmation pages, so it failed to place the bid.

I’ve got a fix for that, as well.

The strange thing is.. it successfully sniped on Oct 31, Nov 2, and Nov 3.
Now.. notice the wacky timestamps on the bid history. The winning bid was somehow entered on the 9th… my bids were somehow placed 30 minutes after the auction closed (if I’m reading that right). ??

Hi Morgan,

I too had problems bidding with the old program, and following the thread here installed 2.1.3pre1.
The last attempt with the new prog. failed with no snipe.
All completed bids show as (FP) with dashes in the max price column.
I have a very large failure page from the bid attempt which I will email to you – Its far too big to post here I think.
Does anyone else still have problems or am I the only one?

Any feedback much appreciated,

Hi Morgan and Mike,

I just had the same problem as Mike. 2.1.2 launches ok but failed to bid – it just seemed to sit there and not bid.
The log below talks about the app prepairing and then cancelling a snipe – I don’t understand because it worked fine on the 27th of Oct.

Any suggestions anyone please?

I had problem also with JBW 2.1.2 after Java update around that time on my 10.5.8

Try using 2.1.3pre1 (it’s posted on the board here somewhere for the link), and you may have better luck. My problem was not (not sniping), but extremely slow in response and real memory use kept going up and up and need to quit and start JBW from time to time, but it did still snipe properly (under 10.5.8 with a different Java to match that).

Right now, 2.1.3pre1-0-g450795e I use, seem to snipe okay, and not sluggish in response ….

App now fails to prep or launch snipes at agreed times. Auction time just comes and goes…

MacOS 10.6.4, JBidWatcher version 2.1.2-0-g040a613

Possibly relevant; Java update since last successful use (on/about 10/24).

Also notice completed items show (FP) after item, but were normal auctions, not fixed price.

I believe 2.1pre7 fixed this, but this should definitely be resolved in the most recent version (2.1pre8 at this time).

I’m just letting folks know, I’ve pushed up a 2.1pre7-28-gcd0e285 version to the same download spot described above and will be releasing it as a 2.1pre7 officially tomorrow evening, unless some showstoppers come up.

So…please try it out and let me know if there are any showstoppers! :)

It fixes…snipes failing, bad seller names, bad bidder names, auctions seen as fixed price, unable to retrieve prices, selection color customization, private listing recognition, some sticky search and update infinite loops, and it reduces the amount of derby.log data dumped out when debugging is set to true. There’s also a bunch of improvements internally, and some work towards a new feature that a bunch of users have been asking about.

Yeah…there’s a lot of code in there.

It’s about as tested as I can manage personally, so I’d love some more eyes on it! Feedback is all I ask…!

I just found this, after I posted in the Beta forum – http://forum.jbidwatcher.com/forums/8/topics/2227

I’m getting the seller name issue in JBidwatcher (2.1pre7-8-g61363f2) on MacOS 10.6.3. Also getting auctions showing in JB as Buy it Now, so can’t set a snipe. Details, with pointers to specific auctions, in the post I link to above.

Yes , you are right. Since you said to test version “7”, I had only changed one shortcut. The shortcut in the startup menu was still pointing to V6.
A reboot put me silently back to V6.

3 Hints for useful additions/modifications :
- Display the item picture only when the pointer is over the left column
- A search function for specific text in the tabs (complete tab is the most important)
- When I add my own tab, it disappears after some time. Perhaps when empty. I don’t know how to reproduce that.

What happens if you don’t add it to Autostart, just run it on its own?

Bleh.

Step back, bring your system up without anything running. No anti-virus, no extensions/services/etc., bring it up in a clean mode, so nothing is running in the background. (Caveat: Don’t do this if your system doesn’t have a hardware firewall/NAT between you and the internet. This is most likely the case if your IP address is a public-facing one (doesn’t start with 10, or 192.168.)

Try to run JBidwatcher in that clean mode, without any extraneous services running. Not because you want JBidwatcher to be running like that always, but rather because it will tell you if something else you run under normal circumstances is interfering.

It can be a real pain to get a Windows box to that state, and again, if your system faces directly into the maelstrom that is the Internet, without a NAT or hardware firewall between you and the world, then don’t do this. It’s terrifying how fast an internet-facing Windows PC gets taken over.

It really sounds like something is interfering with your JVM, though, so it’s the best test I can think of.

@santa – I’m not seeing that; can you give me some item numbers that are failing?

Is there a possibility that you ran the wrong version…? It would have started up with the seller names correct from the last time JBidwatcher was run, and then as it walked through them, updating the seller info, it would pull the wrong data again. Use ‘About JBidwatcher’ and make sure you’re running version 2.1pre7-0-ga318f67.

2.1pre7 was working fine, displaying correctly seller names. However, about one hour ago, the seller names started again to be replaced by “a question”,
“open a new window”, etc. I would bet eBay changed again the page format.
