Thanks for the Pre8 update. The “Get My eBay Items” function is working normally again. |

I was referring to the EXE file sizes I see in Windows XP SP3 on my 45 GB partition. JBidwatcher-2.1pre6.exe 4081 KB 5/2/2010 12:32 PM This is what it displays for file sizes and these were downloaded straight from the JBidWatcher site. |

You are correct in that 2.1pre7 won’t “Get My eBay Items” anymore. I cleared out my “My eBay” tab and it always comes back with 0 items found. I switched back to the 2.1pre6 version, told it to “Get My eBay Items”, and it correctly listed all the auctions I’m watching. I’m sure Morgan is already aware of this new problem. Going from about 4 MB on JBW pre6 to over 12 MB on the pre7 version while fixing many other problems unfortunately new ones have been created. I don’t know anything about Java programming but I’m sure it’s difficult to debug even without eBay making web changes all the time. Good luck Morgan and “may the Schwartz be with you, always”. |

Here’s the error log for a power supply I was bidding on: Sat Apr 10 00:29:28 VET 2010: Time delta with ebay is 3969 There are a couple of things I’m not understanding as to why it failed. First, the end time for the auction was “Apr-09-10 22:31:15 PDT”. My JBidwatcher 2.1pre5 had changed a few months ago and the time is exactly 1/2 hour slow. So far to date that had not been a problem as even though the time is wrong it still seams to know when to submit the bid until now. Anyway here’s the questions: 1. The bid was attempted and failed. If I add the 1/2 hour that JBidwatcher is off I get 1:31:11am EST which is 10:31:11pm PST so my 4 second snipe time appears to be working ok. I have a very fast net connection with low latency and 4 seconds is always enough time to get the bid submitted in time. Is there any way to get JBidwatcher’s time back to my computer’s correct time? 2. My snipe bid was $22.00 and the winning bid was $11.49 so what went wrong? The log doesn’t indicate that there was any unusual delay communicating with eBay so why did JBidwatcher think it couldn’t bid on it anymore? 3. What description am I supposed to see? |

JBidwatcher is completely safe to use but if you have any concerns then the easiest way to run JBidwatcher is to get the free program SANDBOXIE (www.sandboxie.com). This will allow you to run any program in a “sandbox” if you are not sure of the side affects of a new program. |

Thanks for the responce. I’ll see if I can find the fix you mentioned. I have no problem in editing the config file if that is what’s needed to fix the time. I’ve checked over the last few days and it’s exactly 1/2 hour fast from real time. At least it seams to only be a display problem and it is firing my snipes at the correct time so the internal bidding mechanism seams to be unaffected by this. Here’s the log on a successful memory snipe from Sunday: Sun Feb 28 02:01:46 VET 2010: Time delta with ebay is 1548 So you can see that the main bidding logic is unaffected by the 1/2 hour fast displayed time. Right now my next auction is over at 11:52 am (8:52 pst) and when I point at the JBidwatcher system try icon the message pop up says it’s ending at 12:22 pm. Again thank you for a great program. |

After reading a couple of other posts I checked my last auction and at least it submitted it at the correct time of 3 seconds before the auction end. eBay shows the bid being submitted at 2 seconds before the auction ended which is normal for my fast net connection. I think the problem has to do with the “time delta” as I’m in Florida on Eastern Standard Time and the last entry this morning in my error log says: Thu Feb 25 07:09:34 VET 2010: Time delta with ebay is -859 and yesterday the time delta was over 11500. I guess I will ignore this 1/2 hour discrepancy if JBidwatcher is still placing the bid at the correct time but it is a little disconcerting to see the wrong time in my JBidwatcher program. |

Here’s a new one, JBidwatcher 2.1pre5- has been working great for me since it was released but yesterday I had an auction snipe set. This morning I look and the litle balloon message above the system tray icon said the snipe bid was too low and not accepted. Ok I thought, my max snipe bid was set at $95 and the bidding went higher then that as it always has done, that’s normal. I had created a tab that says “outbid” for auctions I have a snipe set but don’t win. I looked in that tab and last nights auction was there. I then see that the winning bid was $77.03 and I was a little upset that the snipe had failed to go through but since I set the time at 3 seconds before the auction end maybe there was a delay and the bid was late. I go to the auction and to my surprise it says I was the winning bidder (hurray for me). Happy ending yes, I manually moved the action from the “outbid” tab to the “won” tab, another no big deal, but the auction color is red instead of blue as Jbidwatcher thinks I was not the winner. It’s happened before where an auction was not acknowleged as won so I have a few red items listed in my “won” tab. Is there a way to change the color to blue to match all the other won items? Anyway, I finally notice that the Jbidwatcher time is way out of sync with the eBay time or my Windows XP time. Manually trying “syncronize time” doesn’t correct it. For example as I type this real time is 8:33 am and JBidwatcher shows 9:03am so it’s 1/2 hour off time. Here’s what the end of the error log shows: Wed Feb 24 04:16:58 VET 2010: Done getting the sign in cookie. Wed Feb 24 04:44:36 VET 2010: ebay: Error, can’t accurately set delta to server’s official time. Did eBay change something on their end again or is there something I need to change on my end to fix this problem? Nothing has changed in my Windows XP Pro SP3 for a long time. Thanks. |

Thanks for replying to my question. I’ll need to do some more testing to see if I can determine what’s going on with my JBidwatcher and I’ll get back to you with more details. Everyone please DONATE to keep the JBidwatcher project alive! Thank you. |

My JBidwatcher 2.1pre4-1010 is sniping way too early, almost 2 minutes early in fact, and I need to fix this. I’ve “synchronized time” so I’m not off with my XP Pro SP2 time relative to eBay time. Auction Server Time Information says “Page load time = 1859” and the “eBay time delta = 1946”. I think this time delta is way too high so I need to manually reduce this". Can some one tell me where to find this in the config file? |

Congrats on the hard work! I really like the new 2.1pre4 1010 version. From the yellow bar that comes up to tell me how many items it’s importing from my watch list, the items won being moved correctly to my won tab and in the correct blue color, the seller name being shown properly, to the multisnipe function ending all snipes after I win 1 of them, this version of Jbidwatcher is a winner. The only thing I found not working for me so far is that if I highlight multiple items and press DEL, only the 1st item is actually deleted so I must delete a group 1 by 1, but since this is a pre version you are probably already aware of this. I’m giving a resounding 2 thumbs up to Morgan for his hard word and dilligence. As always PLEASE DONATE to keep the Jbidwatcher project alive. Many thanks Morgan ! |

Update – The 2.1pre3-998 version sniped successfully so that is good news, is showing the seller name properly (also good), is reading the eBay watch list properly (at least for the US site which is great to have working again), still doesn’t move the won auction to the “Won” tab (very minor inconvenience), and refuses to display some auctions (either imported or manually added) so I can snipe them (major problem). I just found out that when I highlight multiple auctions and want to delete them that it’s only deleting 1 at a time (minor inconvenience). I’ll keep using this pre-release version as it’s working where the older 2.0.1 version is most definitely broken because of eBay server side changes but I hope Morgan can figure out the failure to show all auctions very quickly. Please DONATE to keep Jbidwatcher alive! |

I’ve identified a bug that doesn’t allow some auctions to be shown in the “current” tab. For example, I’m looking for a Geforce 7600GS video card and I have these auctions on my watch list: |

Well, the sniping is working good but the displaying of the items in the “current” tab window is failing again just as it did with the “2.1 pre2” version. It’s getting a little better as now I have a yellow bar coming up at the top of the list telling me it found xx number of items in my watch list and this is the correct number but then it doesn’t refresh the list at all. So now I have 8 watch items, Jbidwatcher tells me it found 8 items, and then doesn’t show me any of them. I’ll have to check out the other discussion threads as it appears I’m suffering from the diplay freezing problem I read about. If I wait awhile the yellow bar telling me it “Found 8 watched items” automatically disappears, then I pick “Get My eBay Items”, and the yellow bar comes back with the same “Found 8 watched items” which is great but if it won’t update my current list I’m back to being dead in the water. Trying to manually add an auction doesn’t do anything either. It’s the same bug I found in the pre2 version. Sigh !!!! Please fix soon Morgan, thank you. |

Wow, I didn’t use JBidWatcher 2.0.1 for a couple of weeks cause I know it’s broken but today, just for the H of it I ran it with a new .jbidwatcher folder, and to my surprise it imported my watch list. Unfortunately right clicking on any item in the list brings up a menu with the snipe choice greyed out so it’s still unusable as eBay has broken that function with their website changes. I sure wish eBay would stop trying to block sniping. Computers are suppose to automate our life, not force us to be chained to it just to bid on an auction. Shame on eBay! I’ve searched the JayBidWatcher website and can’t find where Morgan puts the latest “beta” or “pre” versions to try. Oh well, I hope Morgan doesn’t get so frustated with eBay that he quits. I hate to let the Wookie win. Update at 5:26 pm on 8-1-09 As I’ve stated before and I’ll state it again, PLEASE DONATE to keep Morgan working on Jbidwatcher. Thank you. |

Good news on version 2.0.1 is that it still snipes properly for me on the US site. Of the 3 auctions I added this morning JBidwatcher placed a bid on all three at the right time and I won 2 of them. Unfortunately JBidwatch failed to know that I had won anything and put all 3 in my “Outbid” tab. That’s a very minor problem as it’s easy to send it over to the “won” tab but it shows up in red instead of the normal blue color. At least I can use 2.0.1, manually add the auctions I’m sniping, and manually move anything I win to the “won” tab until Morgan has the time to figure out just what in H eBay has changed now. Good luck, and “may the force be with you”. |

After switching back to 2.0.1 and just for the H of it I tried the “Get My eBay Items” function. The status line showed the normal “Synchronizing” but instead of nothing for a few seconds it actually showed the “Getting …” for each item I have on page 1 of my watch list including the 3 new ones I recently added. Since JBidwatcher 2.0.1 is reading the eBay watch list it appears to be a problem where it’s just not updating the “current” tab to display the auction item that it just imported. Very wierd behavior. |

Oops, I spoke too soon about the 2.1pre version. It worked once and I thought all was ok but I added 3 new auctions to my watch list that end in a couple of hours so they are on page 1 of the eBay watching but the “Get My eBay Items” failed to update the display. Ok, I know this is a pre release so I’ll just manually add them. When trying to do that JBidwatcher says it can’t add the auction because it’s already in the list even though I can’t see it. Ok, so I highlighted all the current items and deleted them, went back and chose “Get My eBay Items”, watched the status line saying “Synchronizing” and then “Done synchronizing” and I have a completely blank “current” tab. Since I can’t manually add an auction that it imported from the eBay watch list I’m switching back to the 2.0.1 version for now as the “current” display will show any item I manually add to it. For now that will work and I know this display bug willl be worked out by the time 2.1 goes gold. |

Thanks for the fast responce Morgan. The 2.1pre2-963 version has the “Get My eBay Items” function working again and the seller names are back as well for the US eBay site. I know it has to be very frustrating keeping up on all the page format changes that eBay makes all the time. You are correct that the 2.1pre2 version only gets the 1st page of the watch list. Everyone please donate to keep the JBidwatcher project alive. Thank you. |

Uh Oh, I’ve got a bad feeling eBay just changed their database access yet again. I went on my friends computer and deleted his watch list, tried the “Get My eBay Items”, and nothing came up in his current list. This is very bad if JBidwatcher can’t retrieve the watch list anymore! I went back and copied the contents of my old jbidwatcher folder back to the newly created .jbidwatcher folder and all my previous auctions are back again. It looks like copying the XML files and the auctionsave folder contents gets my old auction info back at least. Manually adding an auction still works so at least I can get items into JBidwatcher so I can snipe them but now the dreaded “(unknown)” comes up in the Seller column. I hope some one can figure this out real soon. |

Ok I decided to rename the .jbidwatcher folder. After running JBidwatcher it created the .jbidwatcher folder but this did not fix the problem. Now the “errors.log” file says: Still shows the IRubyObject error and another error about the tray icon even though the icon displays correctly in my system tray. Any help deciphering this would be greatly appreciated. |

This is the 2nd time this year that JBidwatcher 2.0.1-825 has stopped retrieving my eBay watch list. I get logged into eBay ok but the “Get My eBay Items” doesn’t display anything even though the status line at the bottom says “synchronizing with My eBay”, there is a pause (presumably communicating with eBay), and then it shows “Done synchronizing with My eBay” with nothing in my current list. I have many items I’m watching so it’s not an empty watch list. The last time this happened I had to rename the .jbidwatcher directory inside my user name folder on XP Pro SP2 and restart JBidwatcher so it would create a new folder and set of files. I hate this as then I lose all the auctions I have in my “Completed”, “Won”, and a tab called “Outbid” that I created to keep all auctions I’ve bid on but not won. Are the contents of the different tabs kept in separate files so I can copy back the “Completed”, “Won”, and “Outbid” listings after I rename the .jbidwatcher folder? I also keep getting this “error.##.log” file error: Tue Jul 14 20:36:25 EDT 2009: JBidwatcher 2.0.1-825 I’m up to error.54.log currently but all the error log files say the same thing about an IRubyObject. I do run RegCure 1.5 once a month to clean out the garbage that builds up in my XP registry. Could it be removing something important to JBidwatcher or Java? |
