Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / time left column not in order

mac OSX 10,6,6. JBidwatcher (2.1.4.1-1-gaed8bd8)

as of the current version, the column displaying ‘time left’ for saved auctions seems completely screwed up. as you can see from the attached screenshot, completed auctions are listed correctly, with the most recent at the top and oldest at the bottom. however the still active auctions above them are listed in what looks like back-to-front order. ie. the ones with longest left to run are at the top of the list and the ones finishing soonest at the bottom.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Drag&Drop to 2.1.1 not working

same here.

i know ebay – by constantly changing things – don’t make it easy for developers but, even so, it would be nice if each new version of jbidwatcher did more than fix one problem at the expense of breaking something else [usually something which was working perfectly before].

after about four years of using the app, i’m finding this eternal game of ‘bugfix whack-a-mole’ is getting a bit tiring.

Comment Topic: That's SO beta! / jbidwatcher on snow leopard

well, i had a snipe fire successfully last night and won the item. so that aspect of jbidwatcher seems to be working fine on snow leopard

Comment Topic: That's SO beta! / jbidwatcher on snow leopard

a couple of minor initial findings on running jbidwatcher (2.1pre4-1010) on mac OSX 10,6 snow leopard:

  • JBW no longer logs in automatically on launch. i have to select ‘ebay > refresh ebay session’ from the menu
  • JBW no longer remembers the ‘edit > set background colour’ setting between launches

apart from that, everything else seems fine – although i’ve yet to have a snipe become due to fire. that will be the big test!

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Most auctions appear as FP

JBidwatcher (2.0.1-825) – mac OSX 10,5,7.

i’m getting the same symptoms, although snipes do seem to be working properly as i won a ‘FP’ auction with a snipe only yesterday.

i’m also getting a symptom that someone else mentioned above, whereby some [but not all auctions] are showing their price as $1. i’m in UK so my listings are in £s anyway.

also, all my sellers are listed as ‘(unknown)’ and although snipes are working, the interface is not indicating that i have wone the auction ie. they are not turning blue.

all of these issues [apart from the incorrect bid amounts of $1] are not really stopping jbidwatcher from winning me snipes. they’re more just annoyances, but i thought i might as well flag them up anyway.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Unable to log in to ebay

nice one! – unticking that ‘mature’ option fixed my inability to login. strange tho’, as far as i know i’ve always had that option ticked and jbidwatcher has only starterd not being able to login during the past week or so.

i never knew what that option was for either – i just ticked it coz it seemed to promise a more ‘uncensored’ ebay

me too. as of the past couple of weeks jbidwatcher won’t load any of my watched items at all. i have to manually drag them into the window.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / am i logged in or not?

[jbidwatcher OSX 2beta10]

when i fire up jbidwatcher i get a warning that i am not logged in and therefore snipes will not fire. however, at the top of the jbidwatcher window, the text which says ‘not logged in’ at startup changes to display my ebay username. but then, the coloured disc beside it is yellow, rather than the usual colours of green for ‘logged in’ and red for ‘not logged in’. added to that, clicking the ‘test login’ button in jbidwatcher’s preferences brings up the following alert:

so am i logged in or not? for some reason, jbidwatcher doesn’t seem to be able to tell for sure anymore.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / incredibly slow to startup

[UPDATE]

i don’t think the slow startup is related to the number of completed auctions stored, after all. i’ve just temporarily removed all completed auctions from the ‘<user>/.jbidwatcher’ folder [and all references to them from the ‘<user>/.jbidwatcher/jBidWatch.cfg’ file and jbidwatcher is still taking an age to open.

i think i’ll try one of the newer betas and see if that makes any difference

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / incredibly slow to startup

of late i’ve noticed that jbidwatcher seems to hang for ages on the ‘loading auctions’ stage of startup. on occasion it can take ten minutes or more til the programme finally opens. i’m wondering if this is a problem with the current release of jbidwatcher itself, or is it due to the fact that – through long usage – i have a hell of a lot of auctions listed under the ‘complete’ tab? could it be that loading three years worth of completed auctions is causing jbidwatcher to take so long to launch?

if the latter, then it would be nice if jbidwatcher could archive older completed auctions [i like to keep them as a record of what i’ve bought and sold over the years] and only load them into memory on demand – instead of having to load all that info in every time the app is started.

[EDIT]

whoops! – forgot to include the following system info:

mac OSX 10,4,11
powerbook G4 1,33GHZ 1GHZ RAM
jbidwatcher v2,0beta7

Comment Topic: That's SO beta! / beta7 - erroneous 'pending snipes' alert

with 2,0beta7, every time i quit the programme i get an alert telling me there are ‘snipes pending’ which will not fire if i quit the app. the alert always shows – even when i have no snipes pending.

Comment Topic: That's SO beta! / 2,0beta8 not launching [OSX 10,4,11]

2,0beta8 isn’t launching for me. [powerbook G4 1,33GHZ / macOSX 10,4,11]

i get the ‘jbidwatcher’ text in the menubar but that’s it; no loading screen, nothing else happens. i’ve left it for 10 minutes and it just stays there with that ‘jbidwatcher’ in the menubar and nothing else happening.

???

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / what fonts does jbid use under mac OSX?

in a fit of stupiditiy which is likely to haunt me for the foreseeable future i recently turned font-managing on my computer over to ‘fontagent pro’ which theoretically frees up RAM by only activating fonts as apps need them.

however, this auto-activation disnae seem to work with java based apps. so jbidwatcher’s interface has been screwed up in two places; firstly [and less importantly] i get no text at all in the ‘about jbidwatcher’ window. secondly [and the real PITA], whilst the auction listings are almost complete, a vital piece of info – namely the figures in the ‘time left’ column – is missing.

i’ve been manually activating fonts right left and centre on my mac and then restarting jbidwatcher but to no avail. i just cannae pin down which font jbidwather is using for the ‘time left’ column. you’d have thought it would be the same font as used in all the other columns in the auction listings, but they all display fine, only the ‘time left’ text is missing.

so, does anyone know what fonts jbidwatcher uses render this column [and the info in the ‘about jbidwatcher’ window]?

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / leopard [mac OSX 10,5] broke jbidwatcher

this is very weird! – i tried to launch jbidwatcher and then checked the console log to find the following:

10/11/2007 21:41:23 com.apple.launchd120 ([0×0-0×11c11c].JBidWatcher10257) posix_spawnp(”/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Resources/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub”, ...): No such file or directory

looking in /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Resources/MacOS/ i found a file ‘JavaApplication Stub64’. since leopard has 64-bit support that looked to my untrained eye like the 64 bit version of the java app stub. no sign of the ‘normal’ version tho’. so i copied ‘JavaApplication Stub’ from another mac which is still running tiger, into System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Resources/MacOS and jbidwatcher launched fine. so it looks like the problem was with leopard [for some reason] installing only 64-bit java support on my comp and not 32-bit support too.

well i’ve got jbidwatcher to launch under leopard now. unfortunately there ain’t anything i’m planning to snipe on at the minute on ebay, so reports as to whether or not jbidwatcher works properly under leopard will have to wait for another day! ;-)

sorry for the strange numeral links in the console message quote – i couldnae work out how to format it as code, so the numbers which were between square brackets got turned into links

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / leopard [mac OSX 10,5] broke jbidwatcher

since upgrading to mac OSX 10,5 [leopard] jbidtwatcher will no longer launch for me. i’ve tried the 1.0.3pre2 pre-release version and that won’t launch either.

is anyone else having any joy with jbidwatcher on leopard?

@morgan: if this is general incompatibility and not just a problem with my particular setup – when can we expect a leopard compatible version?
