Apple’s developer documentation for its Java updates for Mac OS X released yesterday reveals that the company appears to be ceasing future distribution of its custom-ported Java packages. Java Deprecation As of the release of Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 3, the version of Java that is ported by Apple, and that ships with Mac OS X, is deprecated. This means that the Apple-produced runtime will not be maintained at the same level, and may be removed from future versions of Mac OS X. The Java runtime shipping in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, and Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, will continue to be supported and maintained through the standard support cycles of those products. It is not entirely clear what the move means for the future of Java on Mac OS X, as Apple has long been criticized for moving slowly on releasing updates to Java and it is possible that Oracle could roll out its own Java packages (as it does for Windows and Linux) on a more timely basis. On a possibly-related note, Apple has noted in the guidelines for its forthcoming Mac App Store that applications using Java and other deprecated or optionally-installed technologies will not be accepted. Developers are of course free to distribute such applications through other means, but the move appears to be another sign of Apple opting to de-emphasize certain third-party technologies in its products. |

You can throw this one out of the nest if you want! Here’s a left field idea. How about “I want it” thread on the forum? lets say you want something but can’t find it on ebay, I know this happens! You could post your “wanted” and a price you would pay for thie item, (because you would be prepared to “snipe’ on items then you have put a value on it) include your email address and the country you are in. Members could then contact each other. Rules could be simple, no bartering the price you would pay is the only price for the deal including postage and packing etc So if you don’t want to sell at the “deal” price…... don’t make contact…simple Ok feedback time…. Cheers Malcolm |

Hi not sure what machine you are using but on a Mac you can do this, if you click the yellow button on the window bar, the application will minimise and reside in the dock.It will continue to function just as if it was on the desk top. This effect also works for quicktime movies which continue to play even in the dock, Or you can just apple/H and hide the application. Mac’s cool eh! Ps let’ NOT start a who is better spamming |

Hi everyone, Great bit of software Morgan, must have saved me ££££, yes I’m in the UK. Second big thanks to Hans for getting a temp fix. I am running a Mac on 10.4.10 build 8R218 Java J2SE5 and Hans your fix is working, I have tried a “snipe” and that worked and it has updated all my ebay stuff. So Mac users can use this link http://tinyurl.com/2vpbrq I am going to send an amount to Morgan via paypal as a thank you for your great efforts and quick response to the problem, I would like to think that everyone will donate something as “freeware” should be supported Looking forward to the official new release, cheers, Malcolm |
