Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Greetings, All three of those loaded okay with 1.0.3pre1, at the least, for me. Is it possible you have a firewall app which is denying access, or something like that? — Morgan Schweers, CyberFOX! |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Greetings, In general, I’m not seeing that issue with 1.0.2 or 1.0.3pre1, but it’s entirely possible that certain items are being treated differently… An example item would help a lot. — Morgan Schweers, CyberFOX! |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Hey all, just started using JBid with the 1.0.2 version.. AWESOME, btw. But I’m noticing a memory leak. First time using it, had probs with my system and saw that javaw.exe was at 177MB and rising. Restarted it and left it running for a day or two and just noticed it was above 350MB. I forced an update last time running it and cleared up the ‘red eye’ issue. I haven’t looked that far into the different config keys, so I’m not sure if I need to set/adjust anything yet. |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Morgan, I just checked the JRE debugger this morning, and there’s no memory leak—JBidWatcher stabilized at 31 MBytes. Thanks again!!! Robert |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Thanks Morgan! When I cleared the deleted tracking, JBidWatcher no longer deleted the auctions.xml file. I think I found a memory leak though: I set the debug.memory flag, and I’m getting 509.1 MB Max Memory, and 80 MByte of memory in use (this is with a 4 MByte auctions.xml file). If I hit the GC key, the Memory Use drops to 17.3 MByte, but then steadily increases: it’s up to 34 MByte 5 minutes after I did a garbage collection. I’ll leave it running overnight – I’m curious to see what the memory usage is in the morning… Cheers, Robert |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Greetings, Thanks Lazlo, I’ knew something had slipped through the cracks… For the auctions.xml issue, the first thing I’d suggest is going to File | Clear deleted tracking. That will remove the record of all the items you’ve ever deleted that is stored in the auctions.xml file. Many people have reported that memory issues with JBidwatcher go away after they’ve removed that information. Basically just launch JBidwatcher, go to File | Clear deleted tracking, and close the app. Now, on relaunching it, you can go into the Configuration Manager, in the Advanced section, and enter as a key First, if the top number is not in the 500 MB range, then you’re probably running the .jar without any configuration. You should run the version appropriate to your OS (the .exe or .app.tar.gz version), and if you’re running Linux, you need to put Second, if the bottom number starts approaching the top number, then you might have issues coming up. Try saving your auctions, and/or hitting the GC button, to see if that number goes down. The thing that frustrates me most about this, is that I run with a 1.1MB auctions.xml file (about 1100 auctions) and it takes about 20MB out of the 500MB available to it. I just don’t know the circumstances under which it gets out of control. I’ll poke into the underbid issue. — Morgan Schweers, CyberFOX! |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues By the way Morgan, one other nuisance issue: since 1.0, JBidWatcher will pop up an “Unknown Sniping Error” bubble if the snipe value is below the current auction price at the programmed snipe time. I’m assuming this is because JBidWatcher is not parsing the message from Ebay that the snipe amount is below the current minimum bid. Cheers, Robert |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Hi Morgan, I’ve been having a problem with JBidWatcher 1.0.2pre5 and 1.0.2pre6 deleting the auctions.xml file, and restarting from scratch. I have a very large auctions.xml file (around 4 MByte) with all my Ebay activities over the last couple of years (which I keep for price comparisons). If I delete the auctions.xml file and replace with the last dated auctions save file (auctions-10Aug07_1034.xml), everything works fine until the next time I launch JBidwatcher, and then it deletes the auction.xml file again. Cheers, Robert |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Hi Morgan, I hate to seem like I’m making trouble but have just spotted one other feature that isn’t working. I have a number of ebay accounts and I used to be able to change my login between my ebay accounts without having to close JBidWatcher but now when I try it I get this message: “Your sign in information appears to be incorrect, according to eBay. Please fix it in the …..”. However without altering my eBay login information if I now exit and reopen JBidWatcher then my login works and is valid. Possibly this is related to my previous post with the proxy settings. Cheers J |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Hi Morgan, have just been experimenting with different configurations of proxy settings. Achieved partial success eventually – but I suspect not in the proper manner. What I did: Thu Aug 09 09:21:29 EST 2007: Couldn’t sign in! ii) now I tried with the HTTPS option set and the HOST set to proxy.mydomain.com.au Port:8080 -> same error as above. iii) tried the HTTPS with port 80 ( in case a port issue) -> same error as previous. Now if i understand correctly one of the above options should have worked and the HOST variable should not have a “http://” prepended to it. Finally I tried prepending a “http://” to the HTTPS host variable and it now works. Essentially the same technique i was using before. But this now allows me to remain logged in and get my items – not sure about bidding yet. Cheers J |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Hi Morgan Thanks for your response. Firstly, thanks for creating this program – much appreciated. I don’t think you have received nealy enough congratulations for doing this. Ok. I was prior to mid July able to use Jbid.. at work. And I have never needed to use the HTTPS option. It is possible I suppose that work has changed the firewall again. In my response to the pre5 announcement I listed my entries as: I did, when I made my original report, play with setting the https option – with no success. Unfortunately I am now at home so i can’t test it again. (I’m feeling tired – I can’t be bothered setting up the VPN & SSH program under Windoze to access my work machine) tomorrow I will try the https option again with Host: proxy.mydomain Cheers J |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Greetings, Okay, let’s see… In the Firewall configuration tab, you check HTTP Web Proxy. You should NOT have to enter the host as a URL, it should just be the hostname. If the port is 8080 (very common, actually), you should enter it in the ‘port’ box. If you are getting Proxy Authentication Required, you should enter your proxy authentication username and password in the appropriate boxes. That will get you proxied to the web for normal browsing. You should try ‘eBay | Refresh eBay Session’, to see if that worked. If not, then it’s possible that to successfully log in, you will need to check the box that reads ‘Enable HTTPS (secure http) proxy?’. That will free up the HTTPS Host and HTTPS Port boxes, into which you want to enter just the hostname of the HTTPS proxy, and the port for it as well. (If it’s the same, it shouldn’t be necessary, but might be.) HTTPS often has to be proxied slightly differently than HTTP, because the HTTPS proxy has to support the ‘CONNECT’ command, which connects to an arbitrary port. You may need both settings in place, to successfully proxy both methods of communication with eBay. So. It’s not clear from your description what proxy settings you are putting in. I just set up an HTTP and HTTPS proxy, via ‘Squid’, which listens on port 3128, and all I had to do was put the host into the Host: box, and the port into the Port: box. I didn’t even need to configure the HTTPS settings. Give that a try, and don’t forget to put your username and password (for your proxy) in the appropriate boxes if that’s necessary… — Morgan Schweers, CyberFOX! |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Hi, I’m still encountering issues with the proxy settings with pre6 In a nutshell the issue is this: b) In order to get “My Ebay items” after I have successfully got a login cookie I need to remove the “http://” from the host variable. Otherwise it fails with connection time out (due to inability to get past/through the proxy) I haven’t attempted to bid like this, but i suspect it won’t work. I suspect one of two causes: J |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Please can you incorporate the correct bid increment boundaries for eBay.co.uk into 1.0.2, for us Brits? It can make quite a bit of difference in the quality of feedback that JBW provides regarding the validity of snipe amounts. Thanks. |

Topic: 1.0.2pre6 - Fixes currencies and title issues Greetings, This is not as important a release as the 1.0.2pre5 which resolved a lot of core issues. This one basically tries to be a more well-behaved program. It also addresses some thumbnail issues, a case where a transient failure would lose the user’s ‘mature audiences’ access setting, and some currency issues. Many of the changes for this version are thanks to the dedicated work of Laurence Passmore (lmop), at both bringing them to my attention, and often providing code fixes. If there are problems with the changes, they’re my fault, as I often adapted them slightly. Here are the latest versions, hopefully a large step closer to a 1.0.2 release: Windows : http://www.jbidwatcher.com/beta/JBidWatcher-1.0… Linux : http://www.jbidwatcher.com/beta/JBidWatcher-1.0… OS X : http://www.jbidwatcher.com/beta/JBidWatcher-1.0… Specifically the OS X version tries to improve behavior when you’ve told JBidwatcher not to warn on close about outstanding snipes. It used to cancel your shutdown on Macs, if there were snipes outstanding even if you’d checked that checkbox; hopefully this version resolves that. If it needs to warn you about outstanding snipes, it will still cancel your shutdown however. ...lastly if you want to build it for yourself… Source code : http://www.jbidwatcher.com/beta/jbidwatcher-1.0… I’d very much like feedback on this version, any issues or oddities that come up, as I’m hoping to roll this into a 1.0.2 version in the next day or so.
