Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Where to report bugs? - Snipe value disappears if auction is won

Where do we report bugs with jbidwatcher?

This issue has been around for a while.
I upgraded to version 2.1.5 and it’s still there – running Mac OS 10.6.4

Sometimes, not all the time, when I win an auction I sniped, the snipe value in the “Max” column disappears and just shows — , other times it does show the snipe value I have set when I win the auction.
The rest of that line in the completed auction list seems OK – I gert the check mark, my ebay name as the high bidder also the blue colour.
Last auction I won where the snipe amount does not show was 260770461363
Last auction I won where the snipe amount does show: 180654447800

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Snipe apparently failed, as the auction cannot be bid on anymore????

I have my snipe time set to 9 seconds and I think that is short enough to prevent anyone to react to my bid.
I also occasionally check at what time ebay registers my bid and so far it’s invariably at 9 seconds before the end of the auction which gives me a nice comfort level that everything works exactly as it should.

When I started to use a sniping program I was also initially under the impression, the closer one can snipe to the end time of the auction, the better.
But it turns out that this isn’t true.

@ Morgan – When you do another update to jbidwatcher, perhaps it would make sense to bring a warning message up if people try to set their snipe time to short.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Sniping price not always shown in completed auctions

For the last little while I noticed that the snipingb price I have set is not always shown in the completed auctions.

Previously the snipe I had set would show up under the “Max” column – either in a reddish brown if I wasn’t successful or in blue if I was successful, but lately that information has just disappeared in the completed window.

I just checked the information for one of these items – it tates that the bid was actually placed (but it was too low). I knew that the bid was lower than the final price, so sniping is not the issue – it’s the snipe amount in the completed auction field that I would like to get back.

Comment Topic: General Sniping Discussion / Can`t snipe on FP maked auctions

I just downloaded and tried version 2.1.3 on OS 10.6.4
Not only did it fix the one remaining problem auction 200548599322, I could actually go back into my completed auction list, select all the “null” auctions, click on the “update auction” drop down menu and they were all updated to an amount and the number of bidders.
I didn’t actually check if the information is now correct but I assume it will be, no reason for it not to be.

However, I have one question if Morgan reads this.
On the earlier versions of jbidwatcher, I could do a slow double click on the jbidwatcher entry in my application folder on the Mac which would change the highlight of the entry to a lighter colour and allow me to modily the text – I would add the version number after the “jbidwatcher” application.
That doesn’t seem to work anymore.
I tried it on two other applications in my application folder, it still works there and I also know that this worked on older versions of jbidwatcher.

Comment Topic: General Sniping Discussion / Can`t snipe on FP maked auctions

>>> Thanks so much! It’s really amazing how fast JBW can be :-). <<<

I agree,
I think another paypal contribution is in order – I’ll wait to see what happens to my latest snipes to determine the amount.

Comment Topic: General Sniping Discussion / Can`t snipe on FP maked auctions

All my current auctions now show the correct amount and the null (FP) is gone except for one, item 200548599322.
No idea why this one is different – it’s a German auction but so are some of the others that now show correctly.

Comment Topic: General Sniping Discussion / Can`t snipe on FP maked auctions

Thanks,
Just downloaded and installed it on the Mac and wow – does jbidwatcher ever launch quickly now compared to before plus the one auction I wanted to snipe on (which I couldn’t before because of the “FP” problem) is now snipable.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Sniping Failure

I’m using version 2.1.1
Sniping and bidding works fine for me.

What messages do you get where it tells you why the snipe failed?

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Which is a good stable release right now?

If you’re talking about the problem being items that aren’t ended yet, but have been moved to ‘Completed’, you can just mark them as not-yet-completed by selecting them, control-clicking, and selecting Advanced, and ‘Mark As Not Ended’. Then control-click again and ‘Send to Current’.

Morgan – Sorry about not replying earlier, I haven’t been on ebay for quite a while now.

And yes – I did mean that those auctions moved to completed prematurely. There are four of them out of seven I have in my current window.
Trouble with your suggestion is that if I select one of these auctions that have moved to complete and go to advanced, the “Mark as ended” option is dimmed out so I can’t select it. That is true for all four.
The only auctions I can select “Mark as not Ended” are the ones that have actually ended, but those I don’t want to move.

The “current” auctions also don’t update automatically, ie the bid amount and the number of bids.
When I update each one manually, they do update.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Which is a good stable release right now?

I updated a while back to version 2.1.1-0-gcde5e7b and am having a lot of problems with the end dates.
A number of my completed auctions have end dates of 24 August, 7 September and 17 September – all of these are still active, buy it now auctions, that obviously haven’t ended.
One auction for instance is number 180510238947 which shows an end date on jbidwatcher of 17 September and also a high bidder m***e.

The other issue is that completed auctions don’t move from the current to completed tab automatically the way they used to – probably also related to the time/day issue.

On the other hand, I set up a snipe yesterday and it was processed properly by this issue of jbw.

Running on a Mac with OS 10.6.4

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Many issues with 2.1pre5 OS X

Are these really “issues”?
I never expected bidwatcher to automatically download all the auctions I’m watching or bidding on.
Not that I read the user guide to see if it should do that.
I use it to snipe and track the closing price of the odd type of auction beyond the timeframe that ebay provides that information.

Seems it is hard enough for Morgan to just keep up with ebay’s constant changes when it comes active auctions without having to worry about the changes ebay implements constantly i the “My eBay” area.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Time synching differences

I never touch the time setting on my Mac.
It’s somehow set to sync to some time signal on the net and the switch daylight saving happens automatically.
Never have any synching issues either when sniping – I have it set to 6 seconds and when I check the time on ebay, the snipe either fires with 6 seconds, sometimes 5 seconds left.
Can’t get any better than that.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Time synching differences

It’s not the speed of YOUR connection that really matters but delays through the net that bidwatcher couldn’t anticipate.
As I understand it, bidwatcher tries to synchronize your PCs time with ebay time and also allow for delays through the net due to traffic.
I find it does a great job but it can’t be perfect because the internet delay is an unpredictable variable.

However, there is no need to set the sniping time that close to the end time to successfully snipe – all you need is a snipe time short enough so that another bidder doesn’t see your high bid and has time to react to it.
And even then he will only win if his maximum bid is higher than yours

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Why cant you snipe certain items?

Did you try to set up a snipe later?
I run into this occasionally and just noticed that my DSL connection was down for a minute or so when I tried to set up a snipe.
I tried setting it up again a few minutes later and bidwatcher set it up.
The message you get back when bidwatcher can’t set up a snipe because it can’t reach ebay is rather obscure – it suggests that there is something unique about the auction that won’t allow a snipe.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Does JBidwatcher support make offer

I don’t know but why would you even want to use a sniping tool for that?
The whole ides of sniping is to place a bid at the last few seconds – any offers are only good for a certain period of time or until the buy-it-now period ends. No point making an offer at the last minute.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / WARNING to all non USA bidders using JBidWatcher

Interesting scenario that hoddy describes.
I’m officially registered with ebay.ca but do all my bidding on either ebay.com or ebay.de if the auction doesn’t show up on ebay.com.
I have had very situations were I had a dispute with a seller – one last year with a US seller where there were several thousand dollars involved and another a few years back with a German seller where less than 100 Euros were involved, but I never had the slightest problem resolving these.
In fact, I don’t even know which ebay site I went through for resolution, I just clicked on the appropriate link on the ebay website the link in my email from ebay took me to, provided the information requested, and the rest just happened.
I wonder if this is a specific ebay.uk issue or if someone (as in the two ebay organizations) is trying to pass the buck.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / JBibwatcher says I won the auction - ebay says I didn't

When I look at the details, my problem is very similar to the problem reported a few days ago where jbidwatcher bids 2 minutes early. Seems the time synchronization didn’t work.

The strange thing is that I bid on another auction later in the day and for that the time synchronization was perfect.

I have the sniping set to 6 seconds.
The “won” auction which in fact I didn’t win was 180463804629.
Ebay reports my bid at 10:57:59 (bidder s**l) – auction ends at 10:59:00
Jbidwatcher reports my bid as follows:

Comment Topic: Announcements / [PreRelease] JBidwatcher 2.1pre4 is out

>>>> So what I want to know now, for the sake of future bids/snipes, is whether this latest version is reliable enough to trust?

Xavian – I’m on a Mac using OS X and for me jbidwatcher has been as reliable as one can possibly expect.
I haven’t really seen any of the problems people mention here when it comes to the actual bid.

But having said that, I have still lost a number of bids even though my snipe was higher than the winning bid.
The last one I lost because I didn’t meet some requirements the seller specified – the one previous to that I lost because my DSL connection was down.
Obviously, I would have lost these even if I did a manual snipe without jbidwatcher – nothing to do with jbidwatcher as such.

I just wanted to point this out because if there is really a very important auction to you with a “once in a lifetime opportunity”, I wouldn’t try to snipe with jbidwatcher or manual or any other way. There are just too many things that can go wrong over which jbidwatcher has no control.
I have even see eBay being unaccessible for a few seconds or minutes – if those are the “wrong” minutes you would miss out again.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Problems with Search Manager

I always have problems when I want to use search manager.

I have about 10 searches in there and none are enabled.

I just added another search criteria – search by ebay seller name – high-lighted that line in search manager and clicked search………expected to see that sellers auctions added but what happens is that all searches in search manager start and I get hundreds of additional entries in my current auction list

To make it worse, I then have a hard time getting rid of them.
When I select a group of say 30 of the unwanted new entries and try to delete them, either that second window comes up wiyth the listing asking me if I really want to delete them and if I select “yes” nothing happens or the second window doesn’t even come up.
I have to delete them in little chunks of 4 or 5 auctions for delete to work.

But the initial problem is that one can’t selectively control search manager – that has been a problem for as long as I can remember, nothing recent. It’s just a feature I very seldom use – actually I stopped using it because it didn’t work.
I’m on a Mac 10.4.11

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Multisniping quick question

I don’t see a definition of “Multi-snipe” in the FAQs, but my understanding is that you use Multi-snipe if there are a number of the same auctions on ebay and you only want one.
JBidwatcher will keep sniping at the amount you have set and automatically stop once you have won one of these items.
ie – Multi-snipe will cancel all subsequent snipes you have set once one of your snipes is successful.

In your case, you just want regular snipes for each of the 8 items.
Someone else needs to comment if jbidwatcher can snipe on 8 different items all ending at exactly the same second.
I really don’t see why not – sending a snipe only takes milliseconds in the software, sending 8 snipes essentially at the same time should be no issue.

I tried entering auction numbers like you do using the green plus sign and typing the auction ID.
Works for me.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / I am not able to add new items

I always copy the auction number and then use right click and “paste auction” instead of typing the auction number manually.
Try that to see if it works – works with me using Mac OS X Tiger.

As to multiple auctions ending at the same time?
No clue – I would hope it works but I don’t know.
That would be a great way to snipe with bidwatcher because you sure can’t do that manually.

Comment Topic: Announcements / [PreRelease] JBidwatcher 2.1pre4 is out

Ebay could just stop the sniping by changing the rules and the software – other sites have done that but I think consumers are not buying into that concept.
So sniping is officially allowed on ebay.

However – I have an odd problem
For this auction 130328994004, the amount of the current bid shows up as null – actually the word null.
I also have another auction listed by the same seller, 130328993898 where the amount shows up fine.

First time I have seen the word ‘null’ under the current price.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Ebay Change - better for jbid

This is more of an announcement rather than a problem or question.

I’m registered with ebay.ca but usually go to ebay.com
I also have a few ebay email searches for certain items that often come up on ebay.de with shipping only to Germany.

Until a few days ago, if I received an email notification of an item and if it was an ebay.de item that would only ship to Germany, I would get an error message when I loaded the ebay page, but one of the notes on the error page was a link to the original auction on ebay.de.
I could go to the ebay.de site and look at the item, also bid, but jbidwatcher would not accept the ebay ID.

Well, just now, I had an email notification of one of these ebay.de items, but when I clicked on the link expecting to go to the error page first, the ebay window actually opened within ebay.com even though this was a ‘ship-to-Germany’ only item.
That prompted me to try to save the ebay auction in jbidwatcher and sure enough, it took it.

Not sure if this is a change of heart by ebay after many people complained about it or if it’s an ebay bug.

PS: The auction number is 300298862962
