Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / 2.99pre5-2-g7251940 memory leak?

I’ve had an instance of 2.99pre5-2-g7251940 running on Ubuntu 14.04 since the 15th of February. It’s had nothing to snipe on, just sat running.

I’ve just gone to add something to snipe on and it seems it’s not well. The console history only goes back to February 24th but there’s a whole lot of error messages and JBidwatcher itself has a blank white screen and is unresponsive.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Strange behaviour with 2.99

Running Windows 7, on ebay.co.uk, I had snipes on v2.99, and they apparently never fired.

I checked it out manually, and found that, when the call to set up the snipe came at the 2 minute point, the system failed to connect and I was logged out of ebay. If I reconnected, the snipes would then fire – there was no network problem.

Checking later, I found that my time sync was well adrift – it looked like 14 seconds! When I re-synched the time, the connect failure problem disappeared. But I wonder why the system seemed to work when I booted Jbid, but failed when a snipe came up…?

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Jbidwatcher invisible

Everytime I open, login, to Jbidwatcher it displays fine, normal in every way. Once I choose a different application, and try to return to Jbidwatcher nothing is visible other than the menu bar along the top.
I can’t get any window to display. Also the same thing happens if I minimize Jbidwatcher; nothing displays other than the menu along the top. I’ve tried clicking on the icon until I"m blue in the face!
I have version
JBidwatcher (2.99pre5-2-g7251940) but this was happening before I updated it. I have to reopen the application everytime in order to view my auctions. It makes it impossible to use my computer for anything but Jbidwatcher. I’m in need of help!
thanks,

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Development / CLI, Web Interface

Hello,

So I’ve made a small fork of this program and my aim is to add a CLI and a web based interface so that it’s possible to run it on a small host like a pi and use a web based system to use the program.

I’ve exchanged the script engine with jruby 9.0.5.0 and fixed a few class loader path issues, I try to make it easy to compile from a git pull on and won’t even pretend to keep the mac support alive at this stage of the fork.

I have the web service running from the internal script engine using sinatra. I am basically looking for someone who is interested to help me build that sinatra part of the deal while I can concentrate on feeding in the data.

It’s about using ruby to display the data in a neat fashion. My approach in that will proably be very minimal.

Im not aiming to replace something here, rather widen the functionality.

Regards, Cookie.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / version 2.99pre5-2-g7251940 feels buggy

I just downloaded this version a couple of days ago, and it’s just feeling a bit on the buggy side. And I just didn’t win the first auction I placed a JBidwatcher snipe on. That is, previous versions have been working awesomely, and for the first time ever, I missed out on an auction that I really wanted to win.
So….I’m wondering if I should “downgrade” to a previous version? If so, how do I do that

Thanks!

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Development / New feature request - multisnipe.

I know that multi-snipe is currently disabled in the latest releases, and has been for some time. Because of this, I’m still using JBW version 2.5.3pre3-2-g03a9bc3. I’m on Linux Mint 17.3 with Cinnamon DE (and loving it!).

The new feature I would like to see is the ability to vary the amount bid for each element in a multi-snipe. Imagine you really want a Widget from the early 20th century, and there are two available on eBay right now from different sellers. You only want one of these expensive widgets. One of them from seller A has really good photos showing what fine condition it is in, and it is a very good maker. The other from seller B has one fuzzy photo, and the maker is not named. You know that this would probably do, but you would rather have the other one, to the extent that you would pay double to secure that one. However, it will probably sell for more than you are going to bid, but you might just get lucky.

In this situation, you set up a multi-snipe. It doesn’t matter which comes up first, you will bid on both and the other snipe will cancel if you win the first. Both are entered at X dollars, and then you go to one and change the value to Y dollars. Now you are multi-sniping, but with two different values.

Can this be done please? (Once multi-sniping is working again).

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Still alive?

Greetings,
Nah; I’m still alive. Exhausted, and brain-burnt, but I’m alive. It’s been a rough patch for my coding efforts, starting in late January with my 10th anniversary, and valentines day, and stuff like that… A wonderful thing, but it does put a dent in my programming time. :)

I’ve got a good bit of feedback on 2.99pre5, I just need to dig through it and figure out what I absolutely need to fix. :)

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / 2.99 pre4 - no drag and drop from browser

I’m having the same problem. Two computers running Windows 7. One with IE the other with Firefox. Initially I got the circle with line reject Icon when dragging a URL. Restarting JBW I now get the “accept” icon, but the auction doesn’t get added. Adding it manually does work.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / 2.99pre4 won't start, dies at "Starting scripts"

OK. So JBidwatcher 2.99pre5 is now installed in my downloads directory, and runs from the terminal simply. If I now accept that it lives there, how do I change the launching script in /usr/local/bin/jbidwatcher to make that version run? Currently it opens the old version I still have.
Thanks for any help.

@bushytails. Thanks for that, that worked fine only now I’ve lost where it was installed, so my starting script still starts 2.5.3pre3 I had the new one running, I’ll have to go find it . . .

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / 2.99pre4 won't start, dies at "Starting scripts"

Now then. I’ve very little (and old) C experience, and zilch with Java, so I’m struggling here. I’ve installed JBidwatcher 2.99pre5 which would not run at all, and then discovered that I needed Java 8, so I’ve installed that. I now get the stall at “Starting scripts”. Since I did this the wrong way around, do I now need to uninstall JBw and then re install, or try the ‘long command’ above?
I’m running Linux Mint 7.3 with Cinnamon, and have long since avoided the command line as much as possible, so this is getting painful to my old brain :-)
Can anyone help me out here, or should I go back to 2.5.3pre3 which is the last one which worked for me?

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Tips and Tricks / Bring back Multisniping (2.5.5)

Gixen is able to do this. I really miss the jBidWatcher GUI for it though.

Can’t we just code jBidWatcher to do some test checks or the fist bid attempt in a multi, and if it can’t determine the winner it will just cancel all other bids in the multi?

Make sure you’re using the latest Oracle java. It won’t run on OpenJDK, which is what debian includes by default. java -version will tell you what you’re using.

Using GNU/Linux Debian 8 (Jessie) your “long command” method worked on v 2.5.6 but failed on 2.99pre5 giving the following errors:

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / JBidwatcher (2.99pre5-2-g7251940) wont launch on Ubuntu 15.10

When I attempted to launch JBidwatcher (2.99pre5-2-g7251940) on Ubuntu, initially the launch of jbidwatcher.sh failed silently locking up the terminal.
In an attempt to debug, I modified the command within the shell launcher as follows…

java -Xdebug -cp lib/annotations.jar:lib/aopalliance.jar:lib/appbundler-1.0ea.jar:lib/apple.jar:lib/derby.jar:lib/guice-3.0.jar:lib/guice-assistedinject-3.0.jar:lib/jDeskMetrics.jar:lib/javax.inject.jar:lib/jdesktop.jar:lib/jl1.0.1.jar:lib/jline-2.11.jar:lib/jruby-incomplete.jar:lib/json_simple-1.1.jar:lib/jsoup-1.7.1.jar:lib/jsr305-1.3.9.jar:lib/l2fprod-common-fontchooser.jar:lib/mahalo.jar:lib/mysql-connector-java-5.1.7-bin.jar:lib/readline.jar:lib/txtmark.jar:lib/jbidwatcher:app/JBidwatcher.jar com.jbidwatcher.app.JBidWatch

.. in the hope that the -Xdebug flag would let me see where the process was failing. However the addition of this flag allowed the launcher to load without hanging, so I am none the wiser regarding the actual source of the initial problem.

I have posted this in case it helps anybody else stuck in the same situation. I am using ….

openjdk version “1.8.0_72-internal”
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_72-internal-b15)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.72-b15, mixed mode)

… and am actually running Ubuntu 16.04 beta, so there is a slight chance the issue is related to my bleeding edge installation.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Development / Building JBidwatcher from git.

As an addition to the how-to-description of Watched2 I’d like to mention:

To find out the needed paths of “export RUBYLIB=…:…:…”
You can use do e.g.
gem which rubygems
gem which monitor
gem which …
and so forth.

After trying I got JBidWatcher finally running now on Debian 8.3 Linux:

current source codes from: https://github.com/cyberfox/jbidwatcher.git
git clone https://github.com/cyberfox/jbidwatcher.git

java 1.8.0_72
rvm 1.26.11 (latest)
jruby 1.5.6 (ruby 1.8.7 patchlevel 249)

to get it running I enter:

ant clean
ant linux
export RUBYLIB=“$HOME/.rvm/rubies/jruby-1.7.19/lib/ruby/shared:$HOME/.rvm/rubies/jruby-1.7.19/lib/ruby/1.9”
java -jar JBidwatcher-2.99pre5.jar

I added the library mrjtoolkitstubs-1.0.jar to the lib directory, adapted the build.xml file, and the main difference,

i called

java -jar JBidwatcher-2.99pre5.jar

instead of

java -jar JBidwatcher.jar

Then this issue was solved ! :-)

Hi,
I’ve taken the current source codes with “git clone https://github.com/cyberfox/jbidwatcher.git”
Under Debian and Java 8 I made “ant clean” and then “and linux”
Everything compiled fine, but when I run the program with “java -jar JBidwatcher.jar”, I receive the error below as result. I think I am totally wrong at some point, but cannot explain these apple dependencies which are not exist on Debian?.
Is possible to compile under linux?
I appreciate Your help :)
