Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Windows 10 compatible?

Hi,

I’ve been using JBidwatcher for quite a few years now and have never had a problem until now.
I recently built a new computer and installed Windows 10. This is the first time I’ve used JBW on the new machine and the bid failed.

As you can see, the auction ended 21:02:03 and the snipe was attempted at 21:02:13.
Instead of firing 9 seconds early, it fired 10 seconds late.
So, I went to the help menu in JBW and most of those items don’t work.

Is this a JBW issue or a Win 10 issue?
Is it one problem or multiple problems?

Comment Topic: General Sniping Discussion / Another failed auction. Time to ditch JBidWatcher?

My system is configured to get its time from a centralized time server and I still have had the last five or six snipes fail with this same message. I don’t think it’s a time thing. I think it’s faulty code.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Emergeny fix needed for random ebay times?

I have unchecked the “Time Synchronization” box and restarted jbidwatcher. I’ve checked the advanced tab and timesync.enabled is false. But it’s still syncing time, and still missing snipes due to ebay returning bogus times. How do I disable time sync? Time sync is currently badly badly broken.

BUG! Disabling time sync only disables it for the time shown in the UI. It still gets a time from ebay and offsets the time remaining by it.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Emergeny fix needed for random ebay times?

I don’t know if ebay is having time sync issues of their own, or if it’s a way of trying to detect and penalize snipe programs, but the incidences of wrong time syncs are increasing. I figured it was just me, but then someone in another thread posted the exact same issue and times.

I’ve confirmed ebay’s time page, http://viv.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?EbayTime, is returning incorrect times. Reloading the page repeatedly in a browser sometimes gives the bogus times that jbidwatcher is getting. The page is loading quickly; it’s not a network delay anywhere.

The current offset seems to be a minute behind.

jbidwatcher might need code to ignore time syncs more than some number of seconds different from the previous time sync, get the time from other sources (like the time remaining returned when updating soon-ending auctions), or something… because the bogus syncs are guaranteed failed snipes.

As a workaround, I’ve disabled time syncing… hopefully it doesn’t cause other issues…

EDIT: The title should, of course, be Emergency… but I can’t seem to edit it.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Unknown error sniping on 2.99pre5 on Mac

I’ve been getting the exact same random funky +30 seconds time deltas. I’m starting to think ebay is intentionally fucking with the times it gives to clients it thinks might be snipe programs. Or they just have one of their server clocks wrong… but I don’t think they’re that incompetent.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / JBidwatcher won't run

I’m running windows 8.1 x64, java 8 update 77 and JBidwatcher-2.99pre5.
The program was running just fine until today… Jbid just won’t run (there is no process in the task manager to kill). I tried uninstalling, cleaning and reinstalling but nothing worked. Help?

I had a snipe failure last night. In this case the snipe never made a bid (per eBay). I have since turned on debug log so here’s what I think is the relevant error log. I’m a bit surprised by the ebay time delta of 31654, is that in ms?

Comment Topic: That's SO beta! / 2.99 pre5 Watchlist doesn't update when new items added.

The watchlists seem buggy. I have been doing several experiments but have yet to be able to reproduce the behaviour I see. So far the watchlist update seems to always update something but it is not predictable yet.

In my case updating “my ebay items” sometimes refreshes current.
Sometimes it refreshes “My eBay” tab..
Sometimes it refreshes “current” initially then after restart or review some items seem to move over to “My eBay”.

My workaround with 2.99pre5 is to just check the current and My eBay tabs and if necessary move to current.

Sniping is working for me now with the default 30 second time. My issue with sniping was I had reduced snipe time “how close to snipe” to 10 then 20 seconds which generated and “unkown snipe error”.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Unknown error sniping on 2.99pre5 on Mac

I’ve had much the same issue. I had changed the default snipe time (“how close to snipe”) out of the box from 30 to 10 and then to 20 seconds but in those cases I kept getting “unkown snipe error”. I changed back to the default and sniping started to work and seems to have worked ever since.

I suspect some time sync issue or a high latency DSL connection although one of my DSL’s is pretty good usually.

Anyway that made JBidwatcher go from nice looking tool to functional sniper.

Mac OS X 10.11.3 (15D21) El Capitan. JBidwatcher 2.99pre5.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / cmdline interface

Hello,

it would be very convenient to run jbidwatcher from a cmdline interface (at least the basic bidding engine). When I read in the announcement of 3.0 “a new scripting layer” I was hoping for a cmdline interface.

Is the scripting layer useful for this purpose? If yes, is there some documentation how to use the scripting layer?

Thanks
Rainer

Comment Topic: That's SO beta! / 2.99 pre5 Watchlist doesn't update when new items added.

I’m brand new to JBidwatcher running 2.99pre5. Mac OS X 10.11.3. I really like the tool and look forward to release 3 working.

I was able to reproduce some issue similar to this post. Updated using “Get My Ebay Items” this worked fine.
I deleted a couple of items in current that were not auctions.
I went back to ebay added another watch list.
Did another “Get My Ebay Items” in JBidwatcher and the new item was added however an existing item was dropped. I found it in My eBay and moved it back to “current”.

I have not actually been able to get a Snipe to work yet. I keep getting an "unkown snipe error. I submitted the log but now have turned on debug.

Curious if anyone has had a successful snipe with 2.99pre5?

I just set up the latest jBidWatcher, logged into ebay, it pulled my initial watch list fine. I’ve since added a few items and unfortunately jBidWatcher isn’t updated the list to show my new watched items.

After it successfully sniped, it immediately prepared another snipe, and fired it four seconds later. Why does it retry successful snipes, but not retry failed ones? :)

If it’s relevant, it ended for the exact amount I sniped.

Also, yesterday when I was deleting some old items, the UI stopped responding. You could click things, they just didn’t do anything. Nothing was shown on the console. Had to ctrl-c it and restart it.

Missed a couple more items due to already-mentioned bugs… failing to retry when there’s network issues, especially during the pre-snipe login, and randomly deciding auctions are ended before they’re over.

Bushy, your feedback is certainly valued and appreciated by both the developer and the rest of the users. I hate to see you get burned by the bugs though, I know the feeling of missing out on something that went for cheap.

A couple things to consider…

It’s quite possible that for some of the items you lost on, others had a max bid that was significantly higher than the winning bid amount. I know this certainly won’t make you feel any better, but consider that one bid increment above the winning bid amount isn’t necessarily the amount you would have paid if your bid had gone through.

Second, I will admit that I’ve continued to use version 2.5.5-0, because it seems the most stable to me. It may lack many of the features of newer versions, but I have lost the fewest bids using 2.5.5-0 than any other version. I haven’t set up a snipe in a few months, so I don’t know if that version is still working, but you might consider running an older version that you have more confidence in, as a backup, and run the newer version and set it to snipe earlier than the older version. Hopefully between the two your bids will get posted. This assumes that two instances can be run from the same computer, I haven’t tried it. If not you could put them on separate computers, or use a multi-instance type utility, pretty sure they exist.

As a bit of a follow up on that, I have set up a batch file for the Windows version of 2.5.5-0 that basically resets all the database files before I start the program. Eventually the CPU will get pegged out due to something apparently going on with completed items, not really sure of the details, but copying fresh (empty) database files into the proper folder each time seems to avoid his issue.

As a fellow user of this program and a software engineer, I appreciate the time you have taken, and the pains you have experienced, to provide feedback for a beta version of the software. You are essentially saving many others from similar pains by sacrificing your own transactions. Please do consider my second suggestion though, as I think it should be workable to use two different versions to provide you with some insurance, as well as being able to continue offering valuable feedback, without losing anything.

Regards,

Sal

Tried adding an adult auction (mmm, silicone!), didn’t work. It added it, but no image, price null(0), N/A time left, seller (unknown). Guessing something didn’t parse right, or it tried parsing the wrong thing…

I think he’s already fixed that one in the not-packaged-yet version. It’s not related to memory usage. See if it goes away when you’re on the current tab, and appears when you’re on the completed tab.

I don’t run a lot of java programs but I’ve run the 2.5.x stable versions for many months at a time and not had any crashes or lockups.

The reason i posted the error details above is because the instability is something new and hopefully it will help Morgan get to the root of the problem.

I’ve just started a fresh instance of jbidwatcher with no items in the current list and i’m getting the errors below straight away.

I deleted an item in the time between the auction ending and the item being moved to the completed tab. It still appeared on the completed tab, but with much information missing, like the seller saying “unknown”.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Still alive?

By far the biggest/worst issues I’m having are the failure to retry, and the randomly deciding auctions are ended when they’re not. Missed another one today due to ended issue. If you fixed those it’d miss a lot fewer snipes…

I’ve found most java programs leak horribly. I usually restart jbidwatcher every couple days or its memory usage grows to where my laptop has problems hibernating.

Wed interface would be great, so far I’ve been running JBidwatcher on a headless FreeBSD server using xpra (https://xpra.org).
