Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Auction I won shown incorrectly

I though that Auctions I had won were shown with the text and price in green, but one I won yesterday has the text as red, and no winning price displayed?

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / No thumbnails?

I’d just checked my end, I have thumbnails on all my selling items, and one on the items I won (the other 3 not) and nothing else has thumbnails. It must have something to do with the way items are listed, or cached. IDK. This is a setup on OS X, 10.11.6 Intel core i7, JBidwatcher (2.99pre5-2-g7251940)

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / No thumbnails?

For some months now (maybe six)I haven’t had any thumbnails, the image squares all have a single centre dot but no picture. I didn’t worry too much about this as it’s not really necessary for the programme to work but I would like them back. Having read what others said about other matters I’m assuming that they still have thumbnails?

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Just had an interesting failure...

I was having some trouble with unwanted adverts, and so I downloaded a popular anti-malware tool – AdwCleaner – and ran it. It detected a few issues, deleted them and then asked for a reboot.

When I oked that, my machine rebooted, and then, as the default programs loaded (including JbidWatcher) the single snipe that I had stored fired. There was actually 4-5 hours to go, and my snipe was set to 7 seconds, but nevertheless it fired 4+ hours early.

I wonder why?

incidentally, I got the item, and there has been no repetition – so it’s not a bug – just an odd glitch

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Any closer to another pre-release?

I have been using JBW for a while now and contributed twice, and I must say – Thank you very much…. as it had won me many “surprises” and I am happy.

Currently, I am on JBidwatcher (2.99pre5-2-g7251940) using a core i7 Mac and running 10.11.6 and there’s no problem with loading speed, etc. etc….. and it does snipe well for me (if it’s not falling to deep sleep, and snipe bid amount is high enough), but it is loading up listing from “no where”, and they keep adding up, and I’d noticed that some are from very old searches I did, and some of them are from recent search …..

i used to select them all by weeding them out and trash them, but a lot of them came back, and I don’t know if they are duplicated. Then I try to move them to a new Tab, and they keep growing, so eventually I will delete a few hundred of them and quit JBW and launch again….

Besides that…. it’s doing well, and snipe and drag and drop works…….

Again, thanks so much for all the works in the past ….. 16 years is a LONG time…..

If it’s working can we have a pre-release of the Mac App Morgan?
The current versions hardly work at all for me on Mac unless I sit and watch it, continually failing to snipe, quoting unknown errors or communication problems although my machine is set not to sleep, it also shows prices in $ when they should be £ even though it is logged in to eBay UK.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Loaded wrong item image, also forum error

When trying to view Maxx’s thread, I get “JBidwatcher Forum System Error Oops! It looks like there was an error.”

As to the main problem, I got a randomized item image today:

I have no idea what that image is, but it’s sure not the one for that auction. :)

Thanks again,

Yes, thanks!

I noticed the lack of adult items and multisniping, though! people use those features. :)

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / VERY Disapointed

Not necessarily for all of us.
I am using 2.99 pre 5 on Win 10 and it’s fine if a little clunky. Been using JBid for years and it’s FREE!
It loads, updates and snipes on a regular basis. We all know that Morgan has a life, a family and, hopefully at present, a job.
We also know that an update is in the pipeline but requires fitting in with all those other things that life demands.
Most of us are still appreciative of that!

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / OK been running 2.56 bit 2/99 fails

I’ve upgraded my WinLOSE machine to Win 7 and the new 2.99.pre5 works… so I guess after months since I’ve posted this I’ve answered my own question just in case anyone stops by. 2.99pre5 does not work on XP and it probably has something to do with Java… Java me this and Java me that. Anyway I’ve glad it works. Thanks Morgan for the efforts for a thankless job!

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / German ebay detects JBidwatcher and blocking my IP???

Preventing someone to bid is not really fitting into the ebay business model. Before I used JBidWatcher I did manual sniping. It often did not work because I just forgot to do it. So with JBidWatcher everybody earned more from my sniping. So I doubt that ebay targets JBidWatcher.

My ip was blocked for the same reason. Still don’t know what to do with it, we have to use proxies. The solution of this problem with ip is still not found?

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / VERY Disapointed

Once jbidwatcher was the best sniper out there. No more…. NOTHING works. It’s an ordeal just to start it up. It doesn’t update anything and it doesn’t SNIPE.
Years ago when I had my MAC the program worked perfectly. Now it’s a dud.
Perhaps one day when you get it fixed and working I’ll try again but for now I have to say … bye.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Any closer to another pre-release?

Greetings,
It’s tempting. No, look…I still maintain it. I can tell you, statistically, that most people still succeed with their snipes, when their snipe is above the current price. I can tell you that because some folks have opted in to sharing that information with me, and I have a dashboard that tracks that stuff.

It’s a truism that most users only use 20-30% of a program. And while there’s some overlap, the thing each individual user doesn’t realize is that it’s not the same 20-30% for each user.

I’ve HAVE done a from-scratch reimplementation of JBidwatcher as a native app in a more (IMO) efficient language; I’m running it right now. It’s Mac-only, mind you, but it works. It loads the items, monitors them, allows drag-and-drop of items, logging in, has multiple folders, and other basic features.

It doesn’t snipe yet because that’s VASTLY complicated, but it’s my next step.

It doesn’t load ‘My eBay’, because that’s VASTLY complicated. I may never implement that, because it’s been a source of constant bugs since the first time I implemented it, and I loathe the feature because of that. eBay makes changes to the viewItem page VERY rarely. They change ‘My eBay’ constantly.

I have eliminated features in the core JBidwatcher, by the way.

  • The newest JBidwatcher version doesn’t have a built-in server to serve expired listings
  • doesn’t have internal RSS feeds
  • doesn’t output or read XML files
  • can’t give you an HTML-formatted view of the listings you’re watching
  • doesn’t support mature audiences items (another constant support nightmare)
  • doesn’t automatically fallback between international/non-international items (you have to pick one)
  • doesn’t even support multisniping, which was a signature feature and unheard of when I added it. :(

I stripped a lot out of JBidwatcher, in the 2.99pre* series. But you know what has the most logic? The UI and the eBay parsing and control code. That stuff I need to have, no matter what other features I have in it. UI is 12,723 Lines Of Code by raw linecount (because I’m lazy right now), eBay handling (9,228 LOC). The rest is mostly support, database, configuration, and utility classes.

I don’t have a good answer for you. I’m the only person working on this, and I have been for 16 years. Sometimes my life takes priority, but I’ve always gotten back to it, and I’ve always responded when there’s an endemic problem. I feel lucky, because there hasn’t been one for a while…I’m probably due. :(

Yep – seconded here. I’ve just lost yet another auction due to bidwatcher bugs. I have used it for years, and I don’t think it has ever been free of quite obvious bugs. If I could find a suitable alternative, I’d drop it like a shot.

Morgan – I think what is required is to simplify the code base drastically – all I want it to do is read the items in My eBay, and let me snipe them – nothing else. Why dont you ask the users what features they use? I bet 60 percent of the code base is never used. If you stripped out the cruft, just think how much easier your life would be maintaining the software. Or just give up? Say the software will no longer be maintained? At least the users would know where they were.

Cheers

Tim

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Any closer to another pre-release?

Any progress towards another pre-release with some bugs fixed?

The bugs I’d most like to see fixed:
Randomly declaring auctions as ended for no apparent reason and never sniping
Failing to retry anything, ever. Even when it says it will retry.
Not attempting to snipe if the pre-snipe login failed, even though the last login is most likely still valid
Not disabling time sync even when you use the checkbox to disable time sync

Thanks again,

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Tips and Tricks / Is the savefile (auctions.xml) defunct?

Greetings,
I don’t really have enough time to dig into this and find if there’s an alternate feature you could use, but yeah, the XML save file is kaput. It really hadn’t been keeping up with all the changes I was doing, and supporting the code to keep it going was making it hard to do other development.

It should be possible to do the same thing with a small Java program that queries the database, or some other mechanisms, but it’d take me a bit of time to figure out the best way to expose that.

I’m sorry about that.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Set Seamonkey As Browser

Greetings,
Let’s see… You need to set browser.override to true and then it’ll use browser.launch.{osname} as the launcher. Now if that’s not returning ‘Linux’, it might not work. That value comes from the first space-delimited word in System.getProperty("os.name").

I thought there was an Override 'detected' browser checkbox; if you check that, it should set browser.override to true for you, and then it should work…

Trying to set the browser that Jbid uses. OS is Linux. The command that works in terminal for Seamonkey is “/usr/lib64/seamonkey/seamonkey” but that doesn’t work in Jbidwatcher. Also tried just “seamomkey” and “seamonkey/seamonkey”.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Login Failed on 2.5.6-11: Not Clearly Recognized As Successful

Problem: Not Clearly Recognized As Successful and yellow button.

Solution: I received a mail from Ebay in order to protect my account that I didn’t want to check because of time. I followed finally the instructions in that mail and received a pin via smartphone ()if you want ebay sends you via email). I put this pin in the login area and so I could protect my account. Since then the login button of jbidwatcher is green.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Development / Code Analysis on JbidWatcher

Good evening all.

I really like to thank Morgan because of JBidwatcher… it saved me lots of money (i have to pay 4 BRZ for each 1 USD)
So if i can snipe, it saves me lots of cash.

I´m working on a project to my employer, and i guess it could help Jbid a little.
The work is based on SonarQube Framework, and it helped the corporation reduce bugs, memory leakage and prevent exploits and vulnerabilities.

The tool parses the source code, and points lots of stuff to improve code standards, reduce technical debt, close bugs and prevent vulnerabilities. The best of all, it helps people on how to do the corrections (showing a overlay proposing the compliance code).

I created an isolated enviroment which analyze JbidWatcher sources considering versions 2.5.7, 3.0 and the Master/Trunk (I imagine it´s pre something… maybe 2.9Pre)

With some hints from the tool, i guess the community can boost the git pushes. (unfortunately, i´m no coder…basically i´m the ALM/SOA/VMSphere/Tooling Man)

To better understand what i´m talking about, please check this Google Drive Link:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0H0hnobkFrhRm5QcU4tUmFSQm8

I took some snapshots of the portal, and prepared a 7-zip pack with the environment ready to execute further analysis.

What is needed to inspect the future versions?

1) Java Runtime Environment 1.8.0+
2) A Browser (Firefox or Chrome recommended)
3) I also recommend Notepad++ to edit properties and the sonar-project.properties

How to:
a) Download the Jbid-Sonar Environment.7z (on the same folder which the pictures are located)
b) Decompress the package on a desired location using 7-Zip (I recommend c:\Sonar)
c) Locate the folder C:\SONAR\DEV\bin
d) Choose your O.S: In Linux, run the script “Sonar.sh”, in Windows run the batch “StartSonar.bat”
e) Open the browser, point to: Localhost:9000 or 127.0.0.1:9000
f) Sonar Portal should show the 3 versions analysed.
g) If you want to play or customize something, login as an admin. Login: Admin | Pass: Admin (Duh…)

Hope somehow, this help this project which i truly appreciate.

BTW, Sonarqube is open-source too!

Greetings from Brazil
