Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Login Failed on 2.5.6-11: Not Clearly Recognized As Successful

Problem: Not Clearly Recognized As Successful and yellow button.

Solution: I received a mail from Ebay in order to protect my account that I didn’t want to check because of time. I followed finally the instructions in that mail and received a pin via smartphone ()if you want ebay sends you via email). I put this pin in the login area and so I could protect my account. Since then the login button of jbidwatcher is green.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Development / Code Analysis on JbidWatcher

Good evening all.

I really like to thank Morgan because of JBidwatcher… it saved me lots of money (i have to pay 4 BRZ for each 1 USD)
So if i can snipe, it saves me lots of cash.

I´m working on a project to my employer, and i guess it could help Jbid a little.
The work is based on SonarQube Framework, and it helped the corporation reduce bugs, memory leakage and prevent exploits and vulnerabilities.

The tool parses the source code, and points lots of stuff to improve code standards, reduce technical debt, close bugs and prevent vulnerabilities. The best of all, it helps people on how to do the corrections (showing a overlay proposing the compliance code).

I created an isolated enviroment which analyze JbidWatcher sources considering versions 2.5.7, 3.0 and the Master/Trunk (I imagine it´s pre something… maybe 2.9Pre)

With some hints from the tool, i guess the community can boost the git pushes. (unfortunately, i´m no coder…basically i´m the ALM/SOA/VMSphere/Tooling Man)

To better understand what i´m talking about, please check this Google Drive Link:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0H0hnobkFrhRm5QcU4tUmFSQm8

I took some snapshots of the portal, and prepared a 7-zip pack with the environment ready to execute further analysis.

What is needed to inspect the future versions?

1) Java Runtime Environment 1.8.0+
2) A Browser (Firefox or Chrome recommended)
3) I also recommend Notepad++ to edit properties and the sonar-project.properties

How to:
a) Download the Jbid-Sonar Environment.7z (on the same folder which the pictures are located)
b) Decompress the package on a desired location using 7-Zip (I recommend c:\Sonar)
c) Locate the folder C:\SONAR\DEV\bin
d) Choose your O.S: In Linux, run the script “Sonar.sh”, in Windows run the batch “StartSonar.bat”
e) Open the browser, point to: Localhost:9000 or 127.0.0.1:9000
f) Sonar Portal should show the 3 versions analysed.
g) If you want to play or customize something, login as an admin. Login: Admin | Pass: Admin (Duh…)

Hope somehow, this help this project which i truly appreciate.

BTW, Sonarqube is open-source too!

Greetings from Brazil

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Development / 10.8+ Is there a real reason?

I have a setup that rarely fail, always can win for me if I set the sniping amount high enough (realistically enough).

Works on OS X 10.6.8 or 10.7, I think it should work with 10.8 which is what I might try later.

JBidwatcher (2.5.3pre3-2-g03a9bc3)

I keep this setup as I don’t want to deal with all the issues with new version of JBW combined with Java and OS X. I do have other machines that runs more on current software so as a sniping server, it’s working well for me always.

Hope that helps.

Bwaaaaaaaa!

Dang it. JBW 2.5.6 just failed to log in, so I came looking for an update. Alas, looks like I can no longer use my Mac Cube as my JBidWatcher always-on computer, seeing as how it’s running 10.4.

Fine.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Development / New feature request - multisnipe.

Um, back when multisniping worked, that was already a feature. Say you’ve selected a bunch of auctions, and selected them, and set up a multisnipe. Now, go back and click on just one of them, and change the bid amount. There you go. That one auction in the multisnipe set now has a different bid limit.

Comment Topic: General Sniping Discussion / General sniping question

You may wish to choose a snipe time shorter than the default 30 seconds, although making it too short (10 seconds or so) can result in missed bids. Many people re reporting snipes being bypassed, so be careful.

Also, BE SURE YOUR CLOCK is accurate. Be sure to use your OS features to set your clock to a reliable time server. JBidwatcher will attempt to make adjustments for a mis-set clock, but it works best if you set your clock to be accurate to a common time standard.

After you set your computer clock, then synchrnize your machine to eBay’s clock. Use the Server tab. First check the delta time using the “Time Information’”. The number reported is in milliseconds, so a number reported as 1000 represents a full second difference between the auction clock and your computer clock. Then Synchronize and recheck. You should see a lower number reported.

The system will automatically update FP (buy it now) items sporadically and usually will update auctions based on non USA currency, particularly CAD and GBP. No info re other currencies.

Otherwise, for bidding auctions, the feature appears to be broken.

Greetings,

JBidwatcher-2.99pre5.jar generates at startup two exceptions. The second one is fatal as nothing happens. The GUI is never started, not even the splash screen.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / why was my snipe cancelled?

Listing ended at Fri Jun 10 13:11:46 EDT 2016

Events:

Thu Jun 09 09:46:13 EDT 2016: Establishing a snipe for $30.00
Fri Jun 10 13:09:10 EDT 2016: Preparing snipe. (2)
Fri Jun 10 13:13:57 EDT 2016: Cancelling snipe.
Fri Jun 10 13:13:57 EDT 2016: Cancelling snipe, auction is reported as ended.
Fri Jun 10 13:13:57 EDT 2016: Loading bid request…

Now I still won the item, but only as I was also using my regular sniping service, which bid 8 seconds before the end.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Tips and Tricks / Feature Request: Warning when item has Make Offer

I found that Buy-it-Nows have Buy as a right click choice. I tried it. It was about to buy the item at the full price. But the item had a Make Offer button. I would never have bought the item at the inflated price. There should be a warning before one pays full price, when the item has a Make Offer button. Or have JBidwatcher manage a Make Offer.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Tips and Tricks / Not get items from Watch list?

I find that JBidwatcher automatically gets from eBay listings that were added to eBay’s Watch list. I could not find where to turn this off. I use the Watch list to monitor whether an item sells, and for how much. It is filled with items I have no intention of buying. I only check it every couple months. My preferred way to get a listing into the program would be a Firefox addon where I click a menu entry and it adds.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Tips and Tricks / Feature request: Program control of startup

I was reading the web FAQ, (I’m using version 2.99pre5 and the help in the program does not work. Possibly I should be learning on an older version.) and I found the convoluted instruction for putting the program into STARTUP_FOLDER. I have many programs where the program is controlling the startup. Often giving it auto-start by default.

In addition to the folder, they use three other places to control an auto-start: HKLM_RUN, HKCU_RUN and x64_RUN.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Tips and Tricks / Feature request: Day of Week column

I’m still trying to figure out the software. One thing I looked for and could not find was a Day of Week column. I have the list in Time left sort. I see things like 1d, 19h and 1d, 23h. So I have to add that to now to get the day. I don’t want the date that is ends. Then I’d have to have to figure out what day of the week is which date. And it takes up more space than just the day, which I would abbreviate to just three or four letters.

Actually, most useful would be the day and my local time that it ends.

The buy-it-nows could be different. Maybe note the days and hours left, like the Time left column. Or blank.

Thinking more about it, the Time left column has to remain. You need it for the sort. So the buy-it-nows could be blank or N/A. And can I assume the sort is using the exact time and not just what is displayed?

The day could have a week counter as a suffix. Like the second Sunday would be Sun-2. Then even buy-it-nows would work. And the sort could be smart, and do a Time left sort.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Development / Query for lost auctions, and other DB sundries...

Also, I’d like to add, don’t use the mysql-connector-java-5.1.7. There’s a problem with it that prevents the garbage collector from releasing resources that it allocates. After about 10 minutes of running, you’ll start getting out of heap space errors.

Use the most recent one, or at least 5.1.36.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / no more thumbnails ?

Digging deeper I deleted the configuration file in the .(dot)jbidwatcher folder filed under my username. After restarting and
entering my username and password the icons begin to load again for new additions. I tried rebuilding using several sdks back to 45 without effect on this particular problem.

Deleting the whole configuration file also works. Then reload your auction entries from eBay to include the pictures for all new entries.

I’m giving up on 2.99. It doesn’t compile to a workable system. For example, jtabmanager.java fails and screen repaints kill the swing awt thread. 2.5.7 aka 6 compiles and snipes while running in intellij debugger with breakpoints disabled. But it domonstrates that my configuration can be OK.

I cannot get I cannot get my compiled version of 2.99 to work. the user interface fails. I discovered that there about 10 class files that are different between my compiler output and the class files that are part of the executable program .

Most of the differences are trivial however in the case of jtabmanager.java the differences are substantial . if I transplant the class file from the executable program into the class files of compiled programs, the interface works fine . so it appears the code that was distributed is different from the code that was used to build the working executable. However other things are likely to break because of failed dependencies.

Thanks for the information.

2 weeks ago, I got back to ver 2.5.6.11 and the thumbnails came back. Switching to 2.99 pre-5, all the new ones disappear but those that were reloaded by ver. 2.5.6.11 are still here !
The green button went away but JBW seems to work almost well, with its lot of bugs and annoyances.
2.999 pre-5 is really a PITA for me. Dunno if everybody’s equal in the world, it seems not, depending on eplague servers.

By the way, the developer seems to have abandoned the program, I didn’t see any post of him for a while and he didn’t respond to my questions.

When does it snipe? Does it snipe in the last 5 seconds, the last 2 seconds, the last 10 seconds? When?

Do I need to have the JBidwatcher program running on my desktop for it to snipe the item when the time comes? So like if I’m going to work, should I leave my computer on with JBidwatcher running while I’m out?

Does jBidwatcher store the HTML it parses when it detects the auction has ended?

If it did that, the resulting HTML could be valuable for debugging.
