Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Tips and Tricks / Feature Request: Shutdown if no queued auctions

I often want to jbid on something…but forget to bring it up the day of the auction. So feature request is to have JBid shutdown if there are no auctions in its queue. I would use it this way. Have JBid started at every boot. On invocation with this feature, it would kill itself unless it had one of more auctions with snipes queued up.
It would be even better if it requested PC shutdown confirmation if there was an auction item in 12 hours or less.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Can not add auction???

Hi, I tried to find your (311871848690) directly in eBay and it does not show up. So, you need to confirm that it does exist on eBay first. I am using ebay.com from USA.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Can not add auction???

Hi everybody
Because summer started here. I don´t want to sit in front of the PC. So I installed JBid on an raspberry and controll it by VNC.
Unfortunatelly I don´t see all auctions I´m interested in.
311871848690
If I enter some numbers on Jbid I get an error message
“Can not add auction 311871848690 either invalid orcummunication error talking to server.”
If I enter the number in ebay I see an auction
Can anybody help me please?

Thanks a lot
Thorsten

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / VERY Disapointed

I’d love to donate, if I could actually get it working. My AuctionTamer subscription is about to end, and as it’s dead as a doornail, I’m desperately looking for a replacement. I really wanted to like jbidwatcher, and on paper it seems to have all the features, but I just can’t get it working.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Current auctions disappear

I’ve had auctions just disappear several times. Latest was just a few hours ago – all current auctions mysteriously just “gone” – neither computer nor program was restarted. I suspect this latest may have something to do with my modem losing internet connection – after having to reboot the modem JBidwatcher showed no current auctions.

Any idea of why auctions disappear, and whether the loss of internet connection might have anything to do with it? More importantly, any idea of what might fix the problem?

If you can’t get it to work and you’re only interested in the searching, you can try out http://www.auctionsieve.com/ – it doesn’t do sniping but it does a lot of fancy filtering. I develop it in my spare time like Morgan does with JBidwatcher. I’ve always followed his work with interest because we play in the same space. I’m really interested to see what he’s cooking up for version 3.

And I highly recommend donating to encourage his development. Calculate how much you reckon you’ve saved by using his app and work out a percentage to donate.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Searches

After using Auctiontamer for years, it is time to move on. Being open source, jbidwatcher caught my eye. I like what I see so far, but have a lot of questions and adjusting. The first one would be searches. Every search I run comes up with zero new results. To make things easy (A search term that would show up), I created a new search for sex, title only (Have also tried text), destination tab sex temp (A tab I created for the test), currency either US Dollar or all. I run the search, enable the search, schedule the search. No results.

Also, I don’t want to ask too much in the same question, but is there a way for jbidwatcher to import all my old won auctions?

Thanks!

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Search is broken

When I select a search JBidwatcher comes back with done instead of showing the search items.
I’m doing a search for x930d.

I see in the error log this is the search URL JBidwatcher creates:
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&from=R7&query=x930d&sacur=0&srchdesc=y&category0=&ebaytag1=ebayctry&ebaytag1code=0&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&SortOrder=%5Ba%5D&st=0&maxRecordsPerPage=100

When I put that into Firefox it comes back with:
http://www.ebay.com/
and nothing in the search bar.

In the error.log I also see an error about My eBay:
File contents logged with message: Security checks out, but no My eBay form link on final page…

When I sign into eBay I do see My eBay and when I select it there is a pulldown showing my options.
I’d like to know why I’m getting the error.

At the end of the error log it’s showing an item I won (2x-Keyless-Entry-Remote-Key-Fob-shell-case-For-Honda-Accord-Pilot-4-Button-BTN-) that has nothing to do with the item (x930d)I searched for.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Issue with sniping

I recently had to do a system recovery on my pc and reset everything back to its factory settings. When I re-downloaded jbidwatcher, I ran into the issue with ebay’s security blocking the snipe from being delivered. In the past it would go away if I signed in a few times, but it seems like now that isn’t working. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please let me know. Thank you.

I found the solution. Note the added Path setting.

Now that it’s working, set Terminal back to false.

#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Name=jbidwatcher
Exec=/home/Programs/jbidwatcher/JBidwatcher/jbidwatcher.sh
Path=/home/Programs/jbidwatcher/JBidwatcher
Terminal=false
MultipleArgs=false
Icon=/usr/share/icons/jbidwatcher.jpg
Type=Application

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Ubuntu 16.04 running 2.99pre5 - Error launching from Desktop

Thanks for all your hard work on JBidwatcher throughout the years. It’s really appreciated and you’ve done a great job.

As JBidwatcher 2.5.6 had become error-prone in recent months, with lots of duplicates in the listings, I decided to upgrade to 2.99pre5. It works fine from a terminal, but fails to start when launched from a Desktop launcher. This is my setup…

~/Desktop/jbidwatcher.desktop:

#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Name=jbidwatcher
Exec=/home/Programs/jbidwatcher/JBidwatcher/jbidwatcher.sh
Terminal=true
MultipleArgs=false
Icon=/usr/share/icons/jbidwatcher.jpg
Type=Application
Categories=Application
MimeType=

To see the error, set Terminal to true, and put the following lines at the beginning and end of jbidwatcher.sh:

printf 'press [ENTER] to continue'
read _

This is the error that’s produced:

Error: Could not find or load main class com.jbidwatcher.app.JBidWatch

As I said, running jbidwatcher.sh from a terminal works fine, but it’s not very convenient.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Tips and Tricks / Not get items from Watch list?

Yes, I found this strange as well, all the sudden 83 items showed up out of nowhere! I don’t want to buy these but they are reference items for future projects. I guess they are there to stay? hmmm. I thought the simple method of adding item number would be sufficient but I guess that’s how this program is set up? Thanks for all the hard work! If it works (testing today @ 10 seconds) then I will send donation.

Tried using Jbidwatcher for first time. I entered wrong (old) password and got the captcha error. (It’s a new ebay security feature I suppose, bid o matic gets same error). Anyways, I will try again in 24 hrs to see if it goes away or not? Thanks for the hard work on the app!

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / New install of JBW2.99 : Can't access auction database

Hi,
I have been using JBW for quite a while, but no activities the last 1-2 years.
Had an auction I followed recently and thought using JBW is a good idea. I found out there is a new version of it yesterday and installed it on my computer (running Windows 7), but when I started JBW I got the error message:

JBidwatcher can’t access its database. Please check to see if you are running another instance.

But there is no other instance running.
Deleted JBW2.99; cleared all register entries from “JBW” contents; installed again. Still the same problem.

Does anybody has an idea?
Thank you!

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / VERY Disapointed

I must admit that there are a couple of bugs, but on the whole, I’ve used JBW on my various Mac’s and it has pretty much always worked for me. On the rare occasion it hasn’t, it’s been inconvenience, but not the end of the World. If it was something so very very important, I’m usually not so lazy and actually sit there and make the bid myself. Like Roger W, I’ve donated on a number of occasions for it because it’s been super handy and , hey….. the guy makes if for free. That’s FREE.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / captcha

Thanks. I’ve been using jbidwatcher for several years, and I’d never had that problem before. My primary computer went down, and I did a clean install of linux on an old machine. I don’t think that I’d even logged in on a browser at that point. I’ll keep that in mind for the future.
Now, if only multisnipe bidding could get fixed. :)

Happened before…. You need to quit JBW, login to eBay manually from a browser, and get through the captcha. then, use ebay that way, and wait about 24 hours and run JBW again. Hope that works for you. Good luck.

Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / VERY Disapointed

I just had a huge let down. Jbid worked great years ago. Very reliable. Lately I even bought a small item this morning to test it. Tonight 2 min before auction end, it tries to get pre-bid sign in and fails. Good thing I was paranoid and watching it. Clicked refresh ebay session and it went green again. at 1m and 1 seconds the timer stopped counting and 6 seconds before end of auction the log says ebay reported auction ended. A huge let down by Jbidwatcher. It is very unreliable
I am appreciative of his work on the program but if it doesn’t work right then let people know. I need to find another way to snipe.

Thanks Morgan,
I should have mentioned I use eBay Australia. Another thing that happened around the same time was that auto login seemed to change, Jbidwatcher shows I’m logged in but any activity on eBay asks me to login! Not high priorities so don’t worry too much about a fix.
Thanks for the fantastic programme & your ongoing support & dedication!!!

Greetings,
I’m not sure, but it’s entirely possible that it’s having trouble picking up the images if eBay’s changed how they reference them in the listing pages. I’ll take a look this weekend.

Greetings,
It’s possible it’s not recognizing you as the high bidder. I’ll look into it.
