Comment Topic: JBidwatcher Help / Hey Morgan, PLEASE fix the eBay Login!

Hi Everyone — a few years back I downloaded the jbidwatcher source code looking to fix a relatively minor problem. I could not get it to build because there were some files missing from the source distribution. At this point in time I would have to say jbidwatcher is pretty much dead. Really a shame.

Oh I am sure it’s an update on eBay, but that’s not unexpected, I mean what was the last software revision to JBW, over a year ago? Things change.

Will likely use Gixen and keep JBW just for tracking the auctions I win with a thumbnail. Until adding auctions doesn’t work, then, we’ll just ditch it altogether. Thanks for the memories JBW, we sure did snipe alot of stuff together…

I tried to read the error log, and it all points to eBay
If no one will help modifying the code (this code is available to those who knows how to do coding), the it’s a lost cost.

So, it’s not worth it. We will just BIN or Amazon. Too bad, I bid on other auctions, and there’s no tools to help like JBW before for eBay and I actually don’t enjoy those auctions. Now, time to move on.

BTW – I did try JBW on Mac OS X 15.2 and it will not login.

I used to send a few bucks after each major release, but that of course died ages ago… but who knows, is it just a couple dozen people still using JBW? If so, that hardly is worth it… and we sort of need a proof of life for this project before anyone sends a dime…

How about we chip in and pay the yearly subscription fee that you would have paid the other web site to Morgan?

Setup a good annual supporting fee Payable to Morgan, so your JBW will be updated enough to run and snipe for you. I’d sent support via paypal a couple of times in the past and I don’t mind at all to pay for a bit of support.

Hey, everyone else ask for a monthly “rental” fee of the software now (adobe, microsoft, etc.)

Everyone, let us know what YOU think.

Mooooorrrgan ? Hi,

I’m struggling with eBay, since yesterday, I posted 4 messages. They stay evasive in their responses, avoiding to reply to the main question “What has changed ?”. Guess what they did ? They directed me to this post ! ! !
Besides, my loggin issues and password re-initialisations are part of the package, completely rotting my life with them.

I read again the web concerning the 405 error: https://airbrake.io/blog/http-errors/405-method-not-allowed
This site is providing some interesting tips for troubleshooting the issue.
From my understanding the server receives the request, understand it but decides it’s not compliant to the expected protocol. I
“Conversely, a 405 code response confirms that the requested resource is valid and exists, but the client has used an unacceptable HTTP method during the request.”
However, it seems that there are some 50 variants to formulate the request and that wouldn’t ease the process.

we really are starving in front this problem and eager to get it solved. Please !

Or don’t – just declare it officially unsupported. I am looking at alternatives but really prefer JBW, and am hesitant to sign up for a year subscription if JBW is going to be back working again shortly. I’d rather toss a few dollars at JBW than something else…

It looks like Morgan has pretty much abandoned JBidwatcher, but I thought I would throw this out there just in case he does still check in once in a while.

Morgan: I’m sure you are busy, but can you please just get the eBay login working again? It’s seems to have been an issue for a while now, with a workaround that has also stopped working more recently. I really prefer having software on my machine doing the sniping rather than using one of the services, and JBidwatcher did exactly what I wanted. I just don’t want to give up on it!

I have not used JBW for probably two years. Too many problems getting signed in to eBay. I use Gixen which I find very reliable and there is no need to have the computer on. Just schedule your bid(s) and forget it.

As far as alternatives go, I’ve read of BidSlammer and Gixen, but both are browser-based.
One of the main reasons I always used JBW is that it’s not web-based and seems a little bit more reliable in terms of security.

Today – my JBW broke for the first time with the same error 405. (ebay.com Mac OS X).
I’m on OS X 10.13.6

I will try it on 10.14 and 10.15 later when I have time and report the findings.

sad to hear that…. I’d been using JBW for so many years, never had that issue (yet).

The only difference I can observe is that I am on Mac OS X, and assuming you all are not.

I believe the 405 error is a JBW problem. I have been getting the same failure to log in error for quite some time now. I have logged in and out of eBay and still cannot get JBW to long in.

now looks more and more to me it’s an issue related to co.uk area servers.

Anyone having that issue from USA accessing ebay.com?

My JBW is set to snipe in 34 hours for an item (didn’t find any good deals on bidding lately), and we will find out if it still works well for me soon.

Browser login is ok, co.uk and com
But JBidWatcher is not getting the sign in cookie.

Ebay login detail on the machine that runs jbidwatcher haven’t changed in quite some time. It’s been a solid performer.

The guys on the esniper sourceforge thread seem to be making some progress. They think the 405 error is down to a new java script based login page. Not everyone is getting the new login page, some locations are still being served the original page.

Oh well, you have no problem login with browsers and you have static IP, and did you test your login within JBW preferences settings ? If that does not login, then your JBW will not work, right?

Besides that, I don’t know how else but to suggest you read from the web:
From the web:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/238461/error-message-405-method-not-allowed

https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/http-405-method-not-allowed

and figure out why you have the infamous error 405.

My browser access is fine.
Accessing the login page with jbidwatcher or with wget generates a html 405 error.
I tested with wget because it’s wysiwyg and doesn’t process the page or any embedded scripts.

alright, sorry I can’t help you much. I tried ebay.co.uk and I don’t have any issue.

Again, you have issues with browsers even getting into ebay site, logically thinking, you may have issue using JBW accessing ebay sites also.

So, this is not a JBW error code? Just from your general web browsing?

The machine I run jbidwatcher from has a static IP, so an IP change won’t be figuring in my scenario.

Could be that eBay detected “changes” on your end (like different IP#’s).

Maybe you can go to preferences in JBW and “test login” again?
And also if you use VPN, how do you set the preferences in JBW for the ’Firewall"?
Those all play some factors I think.

Granted it was working much smoother and easier before. But maybe that’s why eBay tighten up their codes as they are the one being responsible for any financial transactions that went through their servers.

I think every well “used” machines whether Windows or Mac, will have lots of footprints and signatures left in the machine from prior use. We need to know how eBay is either granting or blocking access. And if IP# and machine ID is the keys they look for then that’s how we need to follow.

It’s similar to if you use your own phone and the app will just login in to your bank account or Paypal or eBay. But try it when you get a new smart phone, even with complete restore to where all apps and files are all the same as the old phone, you still need to authenticate with your bank accounts and Paypal and eBay, etc.

If I turn on my VPN, even selecting “California” which is where I am, all my email accounts will be blocked and I will receive notifications of “suspicious login” telling me that someone else has my password and is trying to access my email account and it was “blocked”, and I should thank them for bloking me haha.

Hey zappram – I will say, I’ve been using NordVPN lately, and sometimes my IP address will move – I wonder if that is related to the login. But, even without the VPN on, I cannot connect. Strange. Could be some kind of active blocking eBay is doing. Not sure why – and I can still use eBay from the browser over the VPN on the same account.

So odd…

I am more confused now. As all are working for me, and JBW still does snipe and drag and drop or add for me.

I click on the + sign, copy/paste item # 383289377053 and it added the item. Click on show in browser, and it showed the item with URL below:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/383289377053?ViewItem=&item=383289377053
Greece, 25 Drachmai 1913, Signature Valaoritis, Condition:VF – 25, Pick#52
currently big at $15.50 with 7 bids.

Alll I have from past experience is: I need to keep my end “consistent”. I’d bee blocked by eBay thinking I’m someone else from my own home computer, but that’s probably having inconsistent IP# from using a VPN client before. Now all cleared and settled.

So, I will snipe on that note for you if you want. Happy Thanksgiving from California USA.
