Greetings,

Whurf. eBay’s doing some really weird stuff. I don’t really like it, especially when they change things while I’m sleeping. I guess they think I’m too busy reading Harry Potter 7 or something. :) Thankfully we have users like Laurence Passmore and Hans who help out! Serious thanks to them, and everyone who is helping, explaining, and working through this with everyone here.

It looks like this most recent change was small, a partial reversion of behavior for the title to contain the item number and end date again. (Perhaps Google didn’t like eBay SEOing their pages like that.) Happily, since eBay Motors never changed the title style, much of the backwards-compatible patterns were still in JBidwatcher.

PLEASE try these out, and let me know any issues which come up.

OS X : http://www.jbidwatcher.com/beta/JBidWatcher-1.0…

Linux : http://www.jbidwatcher.com/beta/JBidWatcher-1.0…

Source code : http://www.jbidwatcher.com/beta/JBidWatcher-1.0…

Windows : http://www.jbidwatcher.com/beta/JBidWatcher-1.0…

Let me know how it does!

Working brilliantly again! Thanks! I was a little nervous when yesterday’s fix stopped working overnight.

Works here on Kubuntu Feisty and on my wife’s WinXP! We can also snipe, but did not let the snipes run, so don’t know if they’ll be any problem when the snipes mature. Thanks to Morgan and his whole team for their instant work and everyone for help. I guess that solves all our problems – until eBay changes the code again.

It’s working for me on OS X 10.4. Thanks for doing this on the weekend! I applaud your efforts!

Pre4 seems to be working. Loaded my pending auctions with no problem. I have one auction closing in about 6 hours, will advise after that.

Looks good on Windows XP box…..............

No red eye, all bids update fine, able to add bids, able to submit bid using program with proper return message if out bid. Will try snipe feature before end of day hopefully.

Thanks Morgan

I’ve been using this soft for a few month now and happened to know how usefull it is… when it didn’t make the job anymore !
I now discover a great team, fixing twice the issues. Really good job !
I did donate a few bucks today and hope many of you are doing the same.
I just add, with Pre4, everything is runnig well on my XP PC in France.
Bravo !

Avatar methomas 1 post

I just made a successful snipe from South America on ebay-US

Everything is working great. Thanks!

Avatar serge 1 post

Tried pre4 on Ubuntu – Feisty Fawn (7.04).
The first try to add an item gives an error (Sorry, I didn’t write it down).
However, all successive attempts to add items worked.
Haven’t tried sniping yet.
Everything else seems to work OK.

Morgan, thanks for the speedy updates. I’m still getting the occasional “red eye” on queued items—they periodically appear on an update, clear on a later update, then appear again, etc.

Relative the number of items queued, it’s only a small fraction of listings that behave in this manner. An example would be item #160139144441 (ebay.com) but it just cleared the red eye (again) on the last update.

Get my eBay items and update works for me, too. Thanks a lot.

But the log still contains a number of irritating messages and it won’t terminate.

Salutations,
Just to say thanks to Morgan Schweers and others who are working so hard to keep the program working. It must be really frustrating to see your efforts twarted, so often, by the antics of the EBay program managers. Keep up the good work – your efforts are really appreciated.

I can confirm dl6dx’s experience – matches my own under SuSE Linux 10.0

Have just installed windows pre4 on Vista using eBay Australia. Auctions now appear to be updating again, although 2 of them had redeye until I had run ‘Update Auction’ several times. Looks good so far. I have a snipe set in about 7 hours so will report back then.

Big pat on the back to Morgan and everyone else working so hard on this. JBW is immensely useful software that I love, use and recommend regularly.

Thanks,
Clive (South Australia)

Hi Morgan,

I’m in Australia 1.0.2 pre1 only displayed US auctions in myebay items but 1.0.2pre4 seems to be working well.
Haven’t sniped anything yet though.

great piece of software btw

I can confirm the reports from other users that the red-eyes sporadically come and go for me, also, using 1.0.2pre4 under OSX10.3. There seems to be no pattern as to which auctions will show the red-eye during which automatic updates, and they all go away immediately when each offending auction is manually updated.

The console log shows that this pair of messages is the most common cause:
Sun Jul 22 23:45:10 CEST 2007: Failed to load auction title from header: “eBay”
Sun Jul 22 23:45:10 CEST 2007: Failed to parse auction! Bad return result from auction server.

However, this type of message also appears on occasion (but so far not twice for the same auction):
Sun Jul 22 23:45:10 CEST 2007: Sun Jul 22 23:45:10 CEST 2007: 160140122552 (BT duet 20 cow phone) – Failed to load from server! (1)

Works perfectly on Win XP in France.

Thanks a million times.

Seems to be working OK most of the time on Winxp Pro, but I am getting the same random failure to update mentioned above.
My log shows the following entries:

Mon Jul 23 09:55:07 BST 2007: Failed to parse auction! Bad return result from auction server.

Mon Jul 23 14:33:43 BST 2007: Failed to parse auction! Bad return result from auction server.
Mon Jul 23 14:35:20 BST 2007: Failed to load auction title from header: “eBay”
Mon Jul 23 14:35:20 BST 2007: Failed to parse auction! Bad return result from auction server.

Auctions update manually ok.

Hope this helps!
